A disappointment for the Mystery Dungeon Series

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is one of the many games in ChunSoft's Mystery Dungeon Series. These games are known by their fans for having simple and addictive gameplay, where you explore randomly generated dungeons, never knowing what's around the corner. Unfortunately this Mystery Dungeon game seems to water down the fun elements of the series(First, Nightmare of Druaga is ridiculously hard, now the next one is too easy).
There is barely any challenge. You can blindly mash the attack button with no worry, and you will likely have all your HP. There are an overabundance of items to be found, but the game is so easy there is no point in using them. In previous MD games, such as Torneko, items were sometimes necessary to scrape through that last part of a dungeon. You had to watch every step and keep track of yourself, for death could be one turn away. For the Pokemon installation of the series, ChunSoft wanted to aim the game at 9-year olds. Furthermore, the story seems very segmented and the game is more like a collection of missions than something with a coherent plot. Although the story does have some potential with actually seeing character development of Pokemon, the rest of the game is too boring anyway. Previous MD games have had some very charming, if not grandiose or big budget(like that even matters) stories.
Overall, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon strips much of what made previous MD games fun. If you want to play a real MD game, try Chocobo's Dungeon 2,Torneko, or even Nightmare of Druaga. Shiren the Wanderer is also coming up. But if you abhor the challenge of MD games, maybe this is up your alley.
