The series is about 550 minutes long and almost all is filmed in high definition. There are 11 parts to the series and they all take us through unique parts of our planet. Some animals are so rare that it is the first time that we can actually see them on film.
We can see how Great White Shark attacks seals in slow motion, how pack of lions attack an elephant. We can see the biggest caves in the world and what creatures live in them , the biggest falls in the world, the strangest creatures living in the deeps of the sea. If you own an hdtv and an hd dvd player, this is a MUST HAVE in your collection. Although HD DVD has now lost the race for High Definition video, it doesn't mean your player must go in the trash or never be used. This collection is truly amazing. The picture quality is VERY good in HD. However, if you have seen one nature show you have pretty much seen them all. I do believe that I will only watch this one time. I had been seeing the advertisements on TV about this product and I thought it would be nice to own. I am glad that I have watched it, but it will only be once, sadly.

Simply beautiful. You haven't experienced the true potential of your HD TV until you've seen this. A must have!

The picture is excellent. The sound is terrific. This has been very educational for me. It's great to put a picture to the things you learn in school and hear about in the news. I purchased an 42" LCD TV around 8 months ago and this is the best thing I have seen on this TV. HD DVD may be gone but if you one or a Blu-Ray, I advise you to get this.

I bought this DVD set for Mother's day because I knew she would love it. After seeing it several months ago I found it an incredible series and well worth having. I bought the HD set because she and my Father recently bought a 73' DLP TV... it looks AMAZING!! If you have a nice TV it's worth the extra money to get the HD or BLUERAY discs. Also, I personally prefer the voice of David Attenborough over that of the American narrator... Sigourney Weaver. Hope you enjoy it as much as we have!

I love everything about HD DVD. You will get the best picture out of HD DVD. Planet Earth should only be watched on HD DVD. Forget Blu Ray.

The original episodes are great in HD. Unfortunatley, I was very disappointed to find out that NO extras are on this whatsoever like on the regular DVD. The regular DVD has 10 minutes of extra footage per episode on how they were able to get the shots. It also has a 5th discs with tons of more interesting extras. Some of the extars are more interesting than the episodes themselves. I don't know what the extars were not included. What is the point of HD if they are just gonna take out all the cool stuff???

It is alright the movies is not bad. It is something that if I sat down and watched once, I probably would not watch it again. I enjoy entertaining and setting it up to play with no sound. The video footage is absolutely amazing.

Perfect way to learn about our beautiful planet. In HDDVD gives your senses a tingly feeling. Perfect Perfect Perfect.

Cannot view DVD, as it is only to be used in HD players, which was not obvious when I bid on it. The item should have stated that. I assumed that it was a DVD in high definition, which it is, but it can't be played on a regular player like other high definition DVD's. I'm very disappointed, as the Planet Earth series was fabulous.

The quality and clarity is unsurpassed in this beautiful series. While quality is not as crisp as the Blue Ray version, it still surpasses the quality one finds on normal television. The Planet Earth series is educational and many of the sequences are animals or landscapes that have rarely been filmed. Several of the segments will literally take your breath away.

It is a great dvd for your family to watch but there are a few segments that little children will find a bit boring, as there is a lot of talking while slowly panning over the area or animal. There are also a few stark reminders that the animal kingdom is not always scenes of adorable animals, it does address life and death in a very powerful way.

We watched it as a family and even several months later the kids were still making comments about the deep sea and cave segments.

I dvd well worth the money. It is one of the best nature films available.

Stunning images of our planet like you have never seen before. Wonderful, simply wonderful, a beautiful collection. HD makes it exceptional. Should be required viewing for all children and adults.

This dvd took a decade to create and it shows. It's a statement of life itself. The narration is flawless and the story it tells shows our planet in a way that all should see. This is the best dvd collection ever made.

Hard to imagine not appreciating the world around us after watching this series. From the massive herds devouring the grass plains or otters at play this is an amazing set. I’ve had this on without volume just as a background visual and it can stop conversations mid-sentence with some of the scenes. A MUST have for every collection young or old.

so much better than the episodes aired on television. i watched all of them before on regular standard definition television, then watched them months later on an HDTV via HD DVD player. WOW. stunning!!!

This is an excellent series that belongs in any collection of anyone enjoying our beautiful planet. The scenes are breathtaking and not your run-of-the-mill nature documentary. The only negative to report is the lip-service given to "global warming" as it is referred to as a fact rather than the controversial theory that it is. At least they don't beat you over the head with it!
