This movie took me by surprise. I usually do not like Vin Diesel and tend to stay away from his movies. I am just not a fan. He, however, executed this role very well. The story was surprisingly original. It left me anticipating the release of Chronicles of Riddick. If you have seen Chronicles, or even if you haven't, this movie is definitely worth a look.
First of all it's too bad the HD DVD format is done,it would of benn better for competetion. The movie plot is good but the movie itself is very dark, they dont really show the creatures completly and the Cronicles was better. All in all for the price I paid for the HD dVd its a good deal.
i decided to purchase this movie due to the fact that i enjoyed it in the movie theatre and its on hd. i have a projector for a television and the hd quality is great, so its a combination of great technologies and a good movie.
I have this one in SD and it looked good upconverted so i'm sure the HD-DVD will be even more impressive. Story, look and feel of the movie are all top rate.
This movie is great. However i did enjoy this movie a lot than i expected. I thought it would be kinda boring because of the title. After reading a little about this. I noticed Vin Diesel was starred in this movie. I'm a fan of Vin Diesel movies. So i decided to watch it. This movie caught me by surprise. I never really knew it would be this great. You should watch this if you are a fan of Vin Diesel because he will not disappoint you in this movie. Perfectly acted, great special effects and very actioning.
I'm a fan of si-fi movies and this one i liked, It sort of reminded me of Aliens but with a different twist, I especially liked the hammerheaded aliens, A definate rental movie..

Pros: Cool Aliens, Good CGI, Fairly Good Plot
Cons: Some Shaky Acting, Not Scary
Can someone please come up with an alien movie that's totally original? I can't imagine all of Hollywood's screenwriters have no unique ideas (so they all bite off older movies...)! Plot: A spaceship gets hit by some little meteors and ends up crashing on an uninhabited planet. Or so they think... The survivors are Fry the co-pilot, Johns, Iman (a Muslim holy man) and three followers, two miners, an antiques dealer, Riddick, and a young "boy" (a gender confused girl). Shortly after recovering from the crash they realize that Riddick has gotten loose. He poses a threat so a bounty hunter named.

"Aliens" in the Dark

Pros: Vin Diesel as a big cwazy guy, visuals
Cons: Same plot as a bajillion other Sci-Fi Thrillers; "F---!"
When I first saw the trailers for "Pitch Black" last year, I thought, "Man, what a nasty Aliens ripoff THAT is. No way I'll see that one." A year later, BOOM! It got me. I was standing around in Hollywood Video with a 99 cent rental coupon, and just decided I needed some sci-fi. Pitch Black is an okay movie. It entertained me for ninety minutes. But it's nothing to write home (or even an Epinion) about. The basic story is that a Sleeper Ship headed from Earth to a colony hits some turbulence and crashes on a hostile desert planet. There are 12 or so survivors, and they're picked off one by...

PITCH BLACK: ALIEN Light (or is it Lite?)
Review created: 07/30/01

Pros: Vin Diesel chugging along as usual.
Cons: A deja vu of ALIEN with a lotta pieces missing.
PITCH BLACK is one you might be tempted to pitch back. After all, it seems like a fairly late, delayed-years-later ripoff of ALIEN. But it is another compelling performance by Vin Diesel, and that makes the fun factor on even a dim-lit movie like this one go up from 2 to at least 9 on the fun-factor scale. An ALIEN ripoff? Surely not. Well, sad to say, check out a few similarities. The opening shots of the PITCH BLACK spacecraft are remarkably (and formulaically) similar to the opening shots of the Starship NOSTROMO in ALIEN, complete with ALIEN's kind of minor-key intro music. Then you see...

On Victims and Victimizers

Pros: subtle themes; interesting characters; lots of tension
Cons: some characters seemed without enough purpose
I've been wanting to see Pitch Black for some time, and that time finally came last night. The Plot It's a pretty simple plot. A space ship carrying a dangerous murderer, the bounty hunter taking him to prison, pilgrims bound for New Mecca, and a few other random people crash-lands on a desert planet with three suns (producing eternal daylight). They discover that other people were there before them, twenty-two years ago, and that they all died. Then the eclipse happens, and they find out what killed the last group of people as the monsters come out to play. The criminal has special eyes that.
Cons: The solar system doesn't stand up to Scientific scrutiny.
Pitch Black (2000) directed by David Twohy. Pitch Black is the story of the Hunter-Gratzner, a space transport forced to make a crash landing on an inhospitable planet after passing through the tail of a rogue comet. Space travel is done in cyro-sleep to conserve resources and preserve sanity on the long treks between stars. Now, the Ship is going down, hard and fast. The Docking Pilot, Carolyn Fry (Radha Mitchell) realizes they have to lighten the load, and starts ejecting the rear compartments. Think of a space ship as a train, and she cuts loose the caboose, and several other cars. The...
