Once again Eric Clapton has proved himself to be one of the most versatile talents ever. The "Pilgrim" album consist of blues and ballads. Both of which he has done before, but there's something different with Pilgrim. His style has changed. It is definately not a repeat or "the same ol' thing." A new chapter in his book, a new experience for his fans.
Just about every track on this CD is great! I listen to it alot!! It really is Clapton at his personal best. I lost the CD some time ago and just had to purchase it again, of course, on eBay.
Love to listen to Eric Clapton he is a classic, got a great deal on this CD and the shipping was excellent too. From the price of his concert tickets can't afford to see him in person so his cd and videos is the next best thing.
Great CD...No one does it better than Clapton!! I've been listening to Clapton's music since the 1960's and this is one of his best works. I think everyone would like it that would take the time to give it a listen.
He's older and more refined. But Eric Clapton still puts out a good record. Nice job on this 1998 release. "My Father's Eyes" was a hit.

Slowhand's "Pilgrim"-age to Modern R&B

Pros: Excellent guitar playing (duh) and EC is somewhat underrated as a vocalist.
Cons: Too many drum machines, annoying female background singers, the odd bad song.
Eric Clapton is justifiably revered as a guitar god, but his recorded music has take a back seat to his instrumental proficiency. "Pilgrim" is a look back as well as a look forward. "Change the World", his hit collaboration with Babyface, introduced both of them to a new audience, and Clapton continues that theme here with an urban-influenced sound that won't alienate his core fans. Most of the songs on here are medium to slow-paced, and elegant and stately. The only two real problems I have with this CD are the overabundant female backing vocals (on almost EVERY SINGLE song) and the absence..

Out of the dark comes a ray of light.

Pros: Very good soothing music for when it's due
Cons: Not a party album if that's what you're looking for
Eric Clapton is best known for rockin' blues, fast and nimble guitar playing, and keeping things livened up. I have liked his stuff for a long time. I just did a review on from the cradle, and gave it 5 stars primarily from that standpoint, it is quintessential Clapton. Bluesy old time blues music that makes you close your eyes and shake your head back and forth. When something horrible happens in your life, you have to sit still and figure out what in the world all of this means. This is exactly what happened to Eric Clapton, and the music on this C.D. is the ray of light that shone through.

Clapton is still "God"

Pros: Different and personal
Cons: A few unnecessary bore tracks
PILGRIM is perhaps Eric Clapton's most hated album. This is probably due to the fact that we have a beloved guitar god venturing into the forays of drum machines, synthesized strings, and experimental vocals. In essence, this is an album that fearlessly rubs something new into people's faces and screams "You hate me, you really do! I know it!" It is obvious that Clapton wanted to do an album that was a complete left turn from anything he'd ever done, and in my opinion, it was successful. To try something totally different and succeed is the natural stroke of a great musical artist. Most...

Welcome To Eric Clapton's Mid-Life Crisis
Review created: 03/08/00

Pros: Well produced
Cons: Packs no punch. Clapton kills whatever potential there is by just being a complete wimp on this album
Did your dad get an earring in his 40s? Did he grow his hair long enough to pull into a ponytail when he turned 50? Did he buy a Harley for his retirement? Welcome to Eric Clapton s mid-life crisis. Normally, when this happens, young and old alike scoff at the person denying their age. However, when the person has the status of Eric Clapton, he gets a little more notice from his peers. I can tell you right now that anyone close to Eric s age probably think this album is cool and "edgy" that he is staying in touch with the youth of America by throwing some sampled drum tracks into his music....

Yawn, Yawn, Yawn

Pros: Clapton toured to promote this album, and I got to see his concert.
Cons: Not up to Clapton's standards!
I adore Eric Clapton. I have every album he has ever made, and have seen every concert he's done in the Los Angeles area since 1980. And when "Pilgrim" was released in late 1998, the first group of new tunes by Eric in quite a while, I purchased the CD the first day it was available. Boy, was I disappointed. Aside from "My Father's Eyes," this album is a yawner. Dragged down by endless instrumental introductions and incredibly banal lyrics, this CD shows Clapton at his worst. No tasty solo blues licks to delight the soul. At its weakest, "River of Tears" is endless, repetitive, maudlin and...
