) This is a great system, and it is reallly cheap I LOVE THIS NEW DVD PLAYER I FORMATTED MY EXTERNAL HD with bunch of songs and movies and its awsome in my 47 vizio. Im just loving it made it region free in 2 seconds and now i can watch pal NTSC every movie i wanted to, and YOU CAN USE HDMI AND HAVE DTS, you just need a receiver that decodes DTS ( every single one ) ITS PERFECT!!

I have operated the system just for 4 days.
First, the Unit was advertised as "New " but came as a" Re-furbished" one !
Why to hide the facts ?
The Remote Sensor is slow responding - it takes a while till the command outcome occurs .
Features are good. So also the looks and the sleek size
It is not a ' great buy ' to reccommend to every one.

Philips DVD playerAs advertised, quick shipment and product works great. We needed a region free DVD player to play DVDs we purchased while living overseas, this player works well with both US and European DVDs. We have enjoyed our player. Would buy for seller again.

Quality DVD player filled with features
) This DVD player had everything I needed. It is region free so you can play PAL encoded movies. It also has a USB port from which you can view picture slide shows, play music, or watch videos from a flash drive. Also, it upconverts so standard DVD's look great on an HDTV. This DVD player does pretty much everything. The only thing it lacks is an optical audio output, but it does have HDMI, so if you have a new receiver you are all set. The interface to access the USB drive is not great, but overall this is an excellent product.

I have bought a refurbished Philips DVP5982 DVD Player, and so far, I LOVE IT! It produces really great sound and high picture quality- which actually surpasses what my current TV's capabilities! I think that this DVD Player would be great on an HD TV, which I am looking into.

Playing movies from USB flash drive is GreatI copy avi files on to a 2gb flash drive to watch tv episodes downloaded from the internet.
It works great.
I wish the machine could display the full file names when browsing the flash drive. It displays the 8.3 DOS file names instead.

suppose to work with dvds that other players dont workit was recommended to us because it plays european and other dvds and cds we cant play. However it is not 1080p only 1080i or 720p. It looks a lot better when connected via rc cables to my hd cable box. even better than hdmi to hdmi.

Philips DVP5982This is a really nice DVD player for the price. It not only plays standard DVD's well on a regular TV, but if you hook it up to a TV or computer monitor that is HD compatible, this player will upconvert your standard DVD's to a picture quality with a resolution of either 720i/p, or 1080i/p which is a really nice feature. I use it on both a standard TV and a computer monitor that displays up to 1080i resolution. The quality on the TV is just what one would expect from a DVD player that is hooked up to a TV. Good, but not great. If a movie is being watched on a HDTV or something similar, the picture looks even better. Your standard DVD's will look even better than on a regular TV. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you how this DVD player rates in comparison to some other ones, because I really have not owned any other DVD players in the past, but my money is on this one. It plays even scratched DVD's with hardly any interruption. It even has a USB port to plug in flash drive so one can show off their picture collection. The product description & manual says that it can also play divx movies off of a flash drive, but I have not tried this feature as of yet, but I assume it would work and work well, as I am impressed with every other feature that it has to offer. For my two cents, this is a great player.

Great player, up converting and Divx ready. The only problem with it is form time to time when theres a lot of change in the divx encoded video like say an ocean or a screen full of static or just grainy filming it seems to lag. Other than that problem its great.

Great for those who like to watch DivX w/o burning DVDs

This is my second DVD player used primarily for watching DivX content. The best feature about it, is the USB drive that will read JPEG, MP3 and AVI files off of anything formatted in FAT32. Any flash memory, external hard drives, you name it. Just stick it in the USB and play your movies off of it. VERY HANDY in my opinion. This is compatible with all DivX formats and many other standard video formats. I have used it extensively and have not found anything it would not be able to play yet.
Fast Forwards and Rewindes in up to x32 on AVI files (which i know a lot of other players do not).
This particular model is USB1.1. Meaning it will read from 1.1 or 2.0 device, but will only use 1.1 speed. This HAS NOT caused any delays or pauses in watching for me.
The only significantly annoying feature I found is the fact that if you leave the movie Paused for longer than a few minutes the player turns off and you lose your spot. You will have to fast forward from the beginning.
Otherwise, greately recommended for those who watch a lot of DivX content and don't want to burn DVDs.

I just bought this item and I must say that I would never buy this item again. The dvd tray would not open no matter what I tried. The only good thing was the dvix would work great but I could not watch dvd's. I don't recommend this product to anybody. I think it was a waste of money!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why I bought it on ePay?
) I bought one Philips DVP5982 DVD player in Costco. I liked it because of smart combination of technical advantages, such as USB interface and multiple file formats reading/playing.
But unfortunately it did not want to recognize my USB drive, so after searching for the information about problems with file systems I decided to upgrade it's firmware. I went on the site, downloaded a file, burned CD, booted... I followed all instructions thoroughly, but it hung up and did not wake up anymore... I called Philips technical support, but after the conversation they requested to ship the player for repair. They refused to ship me new one in advance, but I needed it ASAP, so I went on eBay and found a similar one (actually, a bit newer player) really cheap: it was refurbished, and works fine, though it still don't read my HDD, but I'm afraid to experiment with upgrades anymore... Probably, I'll buy Panasonic next time.

What I like most about this DVD player is that its Divix compatible. The only dislike is that it seems to take awhile for the dvd player to read the disk.
I decided to buy because it saves me alot of time to convert non-dvd/image files to dvd and this player plays non-dvd files/images after burning a disk.

DVD Player Region FreeDVD Player did NOT came region free at first. I had to request a code from the seller which was not with the package. After that everything worked great, nonetheless I wished I did Not had to decode it myself.

Just what I was looking for HDMI hook up, the HD upscale looks good. Didn't have sound at first when hooking up the HDMI cable, had to go into the menu and turn the sound on. Great Sound, picture, 4/5. Would highly recommend, a great upgrade from my last dvd player.

I bought this unit for one specific purpose - to play DVDs I purchase on Ebay from other countries. This creates a problem, because these DVDs are set to a different region code than those of the U.S. and North America.
There’s nothing illegal about buying and owning DVDs from other countries, but the entertainment industry has mandated that DVD players sold in the U.S. are set to "Region 1" and will only play DVDs from this region.
I enjoy English and German DVDs, which are Region 2.
Some research indicated this particular player could be (legally) reset to Region 0, which means it will play any DVD from anywhere in the world.
Why should I let some Hollywood Fat Cats tell me what I can and cannot watch? Americans enjoy the right to read, watch and listen to any material from anywhere in the world without restriction.
The DVD player is a solid unit and I purchased it on Ebay for a very good price. It was advertised as "refurbished" but looked like new and was packaged like a new unit. Many factory returns are in reality new units that customers ship back because they do not know how to use them.
The instruction manual was helpful and the remote worked perfectly. Phillips remotes are bit clunky - you sometimes have to enter your selection twice, but once you get used to this, no problem.
To accomplish my purchase, I had to reset the region code to Region 0 by using the menu and remote. The manual does not tell you how to do this, but instructions are available free from many websites. The procedure is not difficult, but requires a number of steps taken in the right sequence.
At the end - voila!. Player set to Region 0. I can watch DVDs in any language from anywhere in the world.
This player is worth its weight in gold.

This is the best DVD Player I've ever had. It plays all my DVDs including all regions ( 1,2,3,4 and 5 ). It also plays all my DVDs in divx format ( 3.11,4,5 and 5 ) and xvid.
