Bought to complement the 18-55 kit lens of my Pentax *ist DS DSLR. It's small, light and has excellent optical quality over the entire range. Recommended!
A must have lens if you own a Pentax K10D or later model. Superior built quality, extremely lightweight. Nice bokeh. Good for taking still object, not fast enough for moving object.
if you have the money invest in 18-250mm much better range.
I recently purchased a digital Pentax camera. The lens that was included in the package was a standard 18-55mm. I wanted another lens to capture images farther away and bring them up close, but a lens that I would not have to rely on using a tripod with. This Pentax 50-200mm lens is perfect for that purpose. I have used it for portraits as well as scenery. It is very lightweight which scares me a little because I don't know how well it will take the bumps and knocks of my photography profession. I do like it though overall and am very satisfied.
This lens performed very well on a Pentax K10D on a recent trip to South America. I got wonderful pictures of Sea Lions, Penguins etc. Great bang for the buck.
Excellent size and range. Is it the best? no. can it be sharper and faster? yes. but for the price, hardly anything in the price range can beat it. Its a little soft wide open at F/4 but if you stop it down to 5.6, it sharpens up and is actually pretty excellent at F/8.
As for the review of the lens from "liu79zh" (1st post). I think its funny he rates the lens SOOO POOR because he bid for and WON the SAME EXACT LENS: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230190870975
I've been playing with my friends version of this lens and have been trying to get one for a long time. Hate to see such a great lens go to the hands of someone that doesn't even appreciate it.
