Great collection of classic Beatles music. My allowance didn't stretch to buy many singles or albumswhen the Beatles were tops, and I don't have a record player to play those I do have, so I'm replacing the records I do have, and adding the ones I couldn't get back then. The Fab Four will always be FAB!!!!

It's The Beatles, with their best sound all together in one CD. You simply cannot go wrong with The Beatles...ever.

The Beatles, Past Masters: Volume Two
Review created: 04/07/04
by: cdm72 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
CD quality tops 1965 technology ANY day.

Cons:
"The Inner Light", "You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)"

I was never a big Beatles fan. I didn t have anything against them, I just hadn t paid them much attention. When I met my friend Mike, he was a HUGE Beatles fan. So I got to hear a few things here and there. Going through my Book of the Month Club catalog one day I saw this CD listed. I knew I hadn t seen it in Mike s collection, so I ordered it, having no idea what it was. It wasn t until it arrived that I discovered it s a collection of 15 singles issued from 1965 through 1970, all independent of supporting albums. The point was, if you had both PAST MASTERS compilations plus the 13...

  Beatle odds n' ends!!!--Part II
Review created: 07/23/00
by: sparkospunky -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Compiles Beatle A and B sides, other unusual versions of tunes

Cons:
None really

Past Masters--Volume Two is the second part of the albums simultaneously released in 1988 which were designed to give the Beatles catalogue collector everything that the group ever recorded. I have already reviewed Past Masters--Volume One, and this review is about the second half of the presentation. The tracks, and my impression of each, is as follows: 1. Day Tripper--This song provided the model for the rock formula of a repetitive guitar riff forming the basis of a song. The Beatles weren't the first to do it, but their popularity certainly encouraged acceptance of the idea. The tune...

  THE Essential compilation!
Review created: 08/22/04
by: ilash -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Just look at those song titles... absolutely everything!

Cons:
Nice try but not a single one.

Aside for being arguably (well not by me mind you) the greatest band the world has ever known, The Beatles were also a band very much of the nineteen-sixties. Now, I realize that to anyone not living under the proverbial rock for the last forty years, this is hardly a revelation but I do in fact have a purpose in stating such a blatantly obvious and well-known fact. The thing to remember is that much like most sixties bands, The Beatles had a nasty habit of releasing singles that are in no way connected to the albums that followed them. This is of course in stark contrast to bands of today...

It's found in 'bat' and 'baseball...'

Pros:
Pros? Why, it's a whole disc full of Beatles songs!

Cons:
Are you kidding? What cons?

Sesame Street bothered the hell out of me when I was a kid. I'm not sure when that started to happen, but something about the whole show just seemed a bit "off" somehow. Perhaps it was the whole "Bert and Ernie thing" that struck me as odd, or maybe it was that Oscar fella who lived in a trash can. It could be that the cookie-munching blue thing or that fellow who liked to count annoyed me. So, what does this have to do with a review of a Beatles album? There was at least one thing on Sesame Street that struck me as clever when I was growing up, and that was a bit on which a hippy-looking...

MORE songs not available on any album! MORE excitement!
Review created: 08/28/00
by: Andrew_Hicks -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Beatle classics like "Hey Jude," "Day Tripper" and "Across the Universe"

Cons:
A couple nonsense songs like "You Know My Name" and "The Inner Light"

I realize it s just a collection of singles, B-sides and alternate material not found on any Beatles LP, but I ve always considered Past Masters 2 an actual album like Revolver or Sgt. Pepper. It has a distinct evolutionary flow that ties together the poppier early sound, the psychedelic period and the laid-back, acoustic tracks of 1969 and 1970. It s also, for the most part, free of the filler that marred the first Past Masters collection. The B-side/A-side combo of Day Tripper and We Can Work it Out are first up. The album opener, with its now-classic lead guitar line and vibrant Ringo...
