Muscle pain, bone pain - I have to do it. Excercise!! How? Buy this book, read and do it. Be active in your life and you will get power. Rule in the life : "It is better do it (doesn't matter bad way or good way), than do it nothing. Action is learning process and make you reach in your spirit, soul. Do not let sit bad cells in your body. Excercise!!!!
At the price of this book, you have little to lose by reading it before you have any skeletal surgery. It was recommended to me by a colleague after I was taken to the ER by ambulance for a bulging disk. An excerpt from the book: Q. Don't you think your back was desgined to use all of that disk? A. But it's against the nerve. Q. Why? How did it get there? A. Muscles put it there. Q. Right, and muscles can take it out of there. (pg. 119).
He makes perfect sense, and addresses issues from head to toe (literally), plus has sections for participants in various sports. If you ache, you should read this book.
Pete Egoscue's exercises corrected the carpal tunnel problem I had as a journalist for 10 years. I was fixed in 3 months, just using the book. I'm seeing an Egoscue therapist and correcting an alignment problem with my hips and knees. He helped my Romanian-adopted son, who had gross misalignments because of injections of Vitamins A and B. He helped my birth son with some alignment problems and now he can stand and check out groceries during his summers away from college. The exercises are even helping my husband's Restless Legs Syndrome...it's about the only thing that has! We started into Egoscue method on the recommendation of a registered nurse, who applied the exercises to her daughter, whose cerebral palsy had put her body out of alignment and one leg wouldn't align correctly when she walked. The E-cises fixed that for the little girl. Pete's absolutely right -- you can be pain free without surgery! My body feels soooo good after the exercises. You can't beat the original equipment the good Lord gave you. You just need to learn to take care of it. Ellen Pulley
Loved the book, very informative. Received it quickly and it was in very good shape. I especially enjoyed discovering how to help with back pain. I have read other pain books but this one was written so clearly and easy to follow.
I had not heard of Pete Egoscue until about a month ago when I was going through severe back pain due to pinched nerves and disc herniation in my low back. The book's message of self-accountability and basis on physical / mechanical principles resonated with me.
The Pros: empowering, I can positively affect my physical health.
Insightful discussion of how certain muscles have lost their ability to function well, and others have taken over their jobs, causing all sorts of mechanical problems--the exercises aim to reverse this misappropriation of muscle use
The Cons: The "Egoscue Method" is similar to many PT, Feldenkrais, and some Yoga positions--some new stuff here but partially a marketing ploy...
Principle that the body is supposed to be 100% symmetric is only true to a point and cannot be fully attained in many instances, this concept of symmetry seemed to be a core principle
Bottom Line Good Book to use for learning about the body and how repetitive motions really add up and how to correct many common ailments. Easy to read and apply the lessons. I learned a couple good lessons and finished the book in a couple hours (The author suggests reading the first three chapters and then the specific section(s) that are problems for you. This was a good approach)

Easy to read and easy exercises that get results! So many people don't realize that their body is out of alignment and their doctors don't know it either. Doctors are too quick to prescribe a drug instead of fixing the problem. If you want to feel better than buy this book and do the simple exercises! If you want to suffer, keep doing what you are doing now. The author also has a radio show every Saturday morning on a.m. channel, feel free to call his show. Good Luck!
This book does what it says! I have ruptured disks in my neck and upper back. I do the "ecises" an feel instant relief. I have also thrown my back out 3 times now. After 3 days of "ecises" I can move around with just soreness. After 7 days I am Pain free. Do your self a favor. Buy the book and do the "ecises at the back of the book to keep yourself Pain Free. ( I am bad about that. stay pain free by not letting your body get out of wack!)

This book was recommended to me by a friend. I decided to order the book through half.com because it was so easy to find and order. The book arrived in excellent condition within a week (and at a good price). The book contains a series of excercises that target specific areas of the body and are designed to eliminate pain. For example, there are several sets of exercises for knees that hurt. Most of the exercises involve relaxation, stretching, and good posture/alignment. These are not aerobic type exercises. I have been following the recommended regimens for several weeks now and can actually feel the improvement. I have added these exercises to a more aerobic regime of cycling, skiing, and hiking. I highly recommend both the book and half.com.
The pruchase was exactly what I needed. I was told by a Doctor to get and read the book and follow the back exercises. My first thought was to get it on ebay. Great ebay seller.
I have been attending the Egoscue Clinic in Orange County and wanted more information about the program. The "e-cises" in the book are simple and easy to do without special equipment. After almost a year I can say have have nearly resolved my low back pain and cancelled plans for shoulder and knee surgery because I don't need it! If you follow this plan, you will return to a position of "function". This book is a manual for the body--follow it and you will feel good without pain--ignore it and you will have pain! Needless to say, I am a convert.
Pete Egoscue is a genius and the book is brilliant. EVERYONE needs this book. We can then take care of our bodies and remain pain free, keep the body in correct alignment. Thank you Pete Egoscue!

This book was written intelligently and simply. Helped me to deal with my neck pain. I bought it because the exercises taken on-line were helping me. I also referred the book to my yoga students.
