Getting Out of Business: EPMD's Ignominious End

Pros: Some good songs
Cons: Tired subject matter; some unenthusiastic rapping; inconsistent production; forced attempts to sound contemporary
The first track of Out of Business belies the quality of the rest of the album. Using a portion of the Rocky IV theme, the Intro is a melodramatic showcase of DJ Scratch s skills, while the Green-Eyed Bandit and the Microphone Doctor rap his praises. Bar none, the best cut in the disc. Too bad it goes downhill from there. EPMD should adhere to the title of this album, or are they? There has been little to no talk about the next EPMD album since Out of Business was released in 1999, so is this truly their swan song? If so, it couldn't have been more timely. EPMD seemingly never recovered...
