I was looking for a nice slow romantic listening music. I have always like Harry Connick's voice, so I thought this would be a good cd. The songs are good, but his voice does not change from song to song. I think I have heard him sound better on other cds.

  This is an excellent cd

Harry Connick has produced and arranged a number of cd's, singing many of the old, favorite songs of the 50's, 60's, and even earlier. He has a deep, expressive voice which reminds me of Frank Sinatra. Some of the songs I really enjoyed on this cd are "The Very Thought of You", "My Blue Heaven", and "Good Night My Love." If you are looking for a cd with popular songs from the 50's-60's era, I suggest you consider purchasing this one. It is truly a pleasure to relax at home and listen to Harry Connick Jr. croon my favorite tunes.

I appreciate being able to purchase used CD's at a cheaper price than new ones. How many times have I purchased a CD at full price, only to find out the only decent cut on it is the one I heard on the radio? I am especially happy I purchased this one that way. Usually I like to listen to these old standards because they are great songs to sing along with, but Connick's unique interpretation of these songs makes that a no go. It is still a great CD, but not one to sing along with, you have to listen in wonder at what he does with these old songs, truly they become new again with his treatment of them.

If you love Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Michael Buble, etc..You will absolutely love this CD. Words can not describe the voice of Harry Connick, Jr. He is so dreamy.....One of my all time favorites.

HARRY CONNICK SINGS THE SONGS OF THE 50'S & 60'S-A VALENTINE SPECIAL
Review created: 02/05/04

Pros:
Twelve gorgeous songs sung and played with heart, body and soul

Cons:
None

I have to admit it. I've always been a fan of Harry Connick, Jr. Well, not always. Since I was born in 1946 and he didn't arrive until 1967, I guess I can't count those years. And, he didn't record his first album until 1978 (with the title being his age, 11!). But from that album on, I have always been impressed with his talent. There are those in the purist jazz world who claim that Harry sounds to much like Frank Sinatra. Well, if you have to sound too much like anybody, Ol' Blue Eyes ain't a bad one to sound like. Harry has his own vocal style, however, and he is not a clone of Sinatra....

Harry Connick, Jr. Only You (CD): retro-rockets on croon control
Review created: 04/25/04

Pros:
Harry does retro better than practically everybody else

Cons:
Harry's never sounded more like Sinatra than he does here...

It s almost obligatory for a critic to mention Frank Sinatra when reviewing anything by Harry Connick, Jr., and though I ve always tried to avoid doing so at all costs, the extreme similiarity of their voices makes it nearly impossible. When I first heard that Harry was releasing an album of standards from the fifties and sixties, the heyday of The Chairman s career, I cringed, knowing that the resulting album could make for a tough review. I ve had Harry s new album, Only You, for a couple months now, and I ve held off on my review to give Harry s arrangements time to really sink into my...

  Harry's 2004 Valentine Album
Review created: 02/07/04
by: alanbweaver -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Interesting remakes of 50's and 60's standards...good orchestrations.

Cons:
Some songs a bit too lethargic

Harry Connick is one of my favorite singers/performers. He is talented not only as a writer and musician, but also has a good voice. His voice is not quite as good as Sinatra in his prime, but nonetheless he is very talented. Compared to much of the stuff passing off as music nowadays without any melody or with constantly repetitive lyrics (nothing like hearing your body is a wonderland sung with about 12 other words in the song is not musicianship), his work soars above the competition. Sometimes Mr. Connick can get too exuberant in his performances. This happened in his holiday album from...
