I own 2 of these, and although i own 6 olympus cameras overall, i use this model the most. you can buy it quite cheaply on ebay as it's now several years old, and though it lacks the latest features it's very easy to use, takes pictures rivaling much more expensive cameras due to olympus' fantastic optics, and of course has an awesome 8x optical zoom. This camera is the best deal on ebay for a high quality used digital, in my opinion.
This camera is not for the new user who wants point-and-shoot, but my more knowledgable friends say this is a great camera that takes great pictures for the cost. This one cost me around $40.00 including shipping and takes great pictures. Drawbacks are its weight, which is quite a bit more than more current cameras, and the data cards, which are limited in capacity and cost a lot. Positives are a great 8X optical zoom, which works very well, and great pictures for the price.
This was a replacement for my camera that was dropped and stopped working. If you want a good all around compact camera then this is the one. Takes good pictures in low light and has a great flash and more features than you could ever use. Simple to use for everyday picture taking.
Great camera. low cost and affordable, but great lens. i use it to take my closeup ebay pics. then i use the powerful zoom to take sports pics of the kids. very versatile. highly recommend.
Have completed my first three purchases from e-bay. The camera is quite nice and works as expected. The mini electric gear motors I purchased do the job perfectly, powering a sharpening fixture for my buisness. A new invention, in fact. My third purchase was a bit of a disaster. The new 6" benchgrinder was a 'made in China' piece of junk promoted as 1/2 hp, but in reality only about a 1/4 hp if that. (Machine tag says 3/4 hp)! Chinese horses must be very small. The wheel mountings were extreemly hazardous. Sufficently so that I regestered a complaint to the CPSC. I'm not sure I am going to be able to use the machine. The shipping cost was way far more than the machine price, so I sure don't want to return it! One of those: "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is" deals.
I have had this camera for a few years. I just love it! I've used it for "macro" work, family gatherings, and some wildlife photography. Color balance is very good. The light gathering and optical zoom really excell for a point-and-shoot type of camera. My only problem with it is that in low light situations, it won't autofocus reliably. I was able to work around this by finding something bright it the same distance as my subject, hold the shutter button down half way, and then recompose the photo. Still, I was able to take some reasonable photos of lightning at night. On longer exposures, there was considerable digital noise, but this camera really wasn't made for such things. While I have now gotten a Canon SLR, I still take the Olympus with me camping and fishing when I just need a camera. I belong to a local mushroom club and maintain our website. Many of the photos on the site were taken with this camera, and rival the quality of photos taken with 35mm cameras. If this camera had a manual focus setting, I'd give it a 5 point. As it is, I'd prefer to give it a 4.5 for overall quality. It uses a SMARTMEDIA memory card. These are not common and can be hard to get. Still, my 128mg card holds plenty of pictures for most shooting sessions.
After using multiple Olympus camedia cameras. This camera lacks any quality. Plastic is of low quality and popup flash fail frequently. The c-720 hurts the reputaion of olympus. The Olympus Camedias 2100 2000 2020 3000 3030 4000 4040 5050 are all far superior cameras.
I loved the picture quality most of the time on more standard photo conditions. Ease of use with presets, yet lots of advanced features available. There's no way to manually focus during non-standard photo conditions and during some of those times the autofocus is insufficient and you end up with a blurred photo. The flash died after about 4 years of use. I googled up another user with same results after about 4 years of use. Need flash for more difficult photo conditions.
This is a great camera. I love it. This is my second one exactly the same. The first one was dropped and broken, but I would not buy any other camera. And now the price is good and thanks to Ebay - the camera is obtainable. It's not really small, but I've taken it all over the Caribbean, Mexico & Hawaii. The pictures are great & the zoom is fantastic.
This camera was extremely expensive when I came out new--something like $599.00. However, it is the _best_ camera I've ever used. Fantastic picture quality, and better zoom ability than more expensive cameras I've seen. I'd never consider selling mine! It was definitely worth every penny.
Unfortunately, there aren't going to be many more point & shoot cameras on the market like this one, and that's a shame. The zoom on this camera alone makes this an awesome camera! Unless you are looking for a camera that you can fit in your pocket, this camera does it all, plus it's easy to use. My C720 was worth every penny! The 3 megapixel resolution hasn't done me wrong yet, although it's impossible to find new cameras now that a resolution under 4 megapixels. The C740 is almost identical to the C720, but with a 4 megapixel resolution.
I have used a C-720 Olympus camera for 3 years and love it. I like that I can control almost every aspect of shooting with this camera, shutter speed and more. Takes great pictures. A varity of pixel options.
I like the way the camera takes pictures on the auto setting. The lighting is good. I bought it because Ihad one like it and it got stolen. The only thng that may be a dislike is that the video option is short and no sound.
