Not only is this classic live-action Disney film beautifully restored and brought to DVD format, the "Vault Disney Collection" format has created a modern masterpiece, combining 21st Century technology with timeless Disney storytelling.
Disc One includes the restored film, along with audio commentary from Tommy Kirk, Kevin Corcoran, Bob Weatherwax, and Fess Parker.
In particular, Disc Two is worth the full price of admission for this set. "Old Yeller: Remembering a Classic" is guaranteed to make you shed a tear. The remembrances of author Fred Gipson are priceless. In addition, Spin and Marty fans will enjoy a trip down memory lane with a return to the set location for this Mickey Mouse Club serial at the "Ranch of the Golden Oak". Included are Production Archives for the film, and the "1957 Disney Studio Album" (video scrapbook) combine for an unforgettable DVD experience.

Old Yeller is one of those American classics that you would think everyone (and their dog) has seen by now. And yeah, everyone should see it. I should have seen it a long time ago, but somehow I missed it. I knew the plotline of the movie, knew how it ended, knew I was going to cry .but I decided to watch it anyway. I love dogs. ...Still 'Yeller' After All These Years... Revisiting the memories of long-ago love can be sobering. As one grows, changes, hopefully(?) matures, relationships that were once ruled by primeval surges of hormones morph into cold transactions that can be coolly analyzed in terms of profit and loss. Randomly firing neurons that once sought to burst into self-consuming flame now bring only smoky memories that figuratively slap one with a wet 'what-was-I-thinking' towel. There was a point in my life when this was absolutely, unequivocably my favorite movie. I haven't watched it lately, but I am nearly certain that my eyes will still be raining buckets at the end the next time I see it. Very few movies make me cry, but this is a notable exception. Disney's "Old Yeller" (1957) has remained a classic among films and, when viewed, it is easy to see why. Every element existent comes together to form a perfect viewing experience. PREMISE --------- The story line is easy to follow, and it is one which anyone who ever owned a pet can identify with in some way (particularly dog owners, obviously). The premise of a young boy who hates a mischievous dog, but then befriends him after the canine repeatedly saves the Texas family, goes straight to the heart. (A great relief of the family is the natural sounds of the Texan accents here. They are not.
