I could go on and on about how I love this album and how I bought it when it first came out and it was one of the first CDs I ever owned etc. etc. but let me just jump to the music and say that this is one of the best blues/pop albums ever made and if you don't own this your collection has a giant hole. 5 Huge Stars.

I am a big Dylan fan and have most of his albums but not all of them. I saw the opportunity to get this album at a great price and bid on it. The album turned out to be one of my favorites! Great songs if you like the acoustic side of him.

Bob Dylan is one of those artists that continues on, while other "stars" come and go. This album shows why he endures. Great music with his blues-folk approach that is catchy yet thought provoking.

"Oh Mercy": Bob Dylan's light at the end of the 1980s tunnel

Pros:
Some of Dylan's best material in years, helped out by Lanois' atmospheric production.

Cons:
A few boring tracks that slow the album down and throw off the pacing.

"Don't call it a comeback, I've been here for years!" Of course, most people recognize the above statement as the opening line to "Mama Said Knock You Out", the single from the 1990 album of the same name by Hip-Hop artist LL Cool J. With that line, he tried to make everyone believe that he was just as great as he was in the early days, that he had never fallen off. While the song did show LL at his best (as did the album, which went down as LL's greatest effort), the opening statement wasn't entirely true. The fact was he DID fall off: his previous album, 1989's "Walking With a Panther" was..

Pros:
Bob Dylan at his funniest, deepest, and most artistic.

Cons:
It's far too short.

Bob Dylan is a genuinely intriguing man. 1989's Oh Mercy is a compelling, multi-dimensional collection of some of Bob's most underrated songs of all time. It's an album that always seems warmly familiar and, at the same time, eerily compelling to me. It's a moody, sometimes bitter piece, but it's also Bob Dylan at his most vulnerable and joyous. Before we dive into the actual album, though, let's get a few things straight about the enigma who is Bob Dylan... The Anatomy of Bob Dylan 1. Bob Dylan is a poet. His words have had profound influence on multiple generations. Bob's lyrics are at...

Pros:
Superb album.

Cons:
not enough people have listened to it.

I am probably going to show my age with this review of Bob Dylan's album, but I don't care. I have been in the listening public since the beginning of this guy's legendary career and it is probably my age that allows me to write what I feel to be a balanced review of what I feel to be the best album that Bob Dylan ever made. Hiding behind a cover that looks somewhat dated is an album that really is not, and that is still believeable and very real even after more than 15 years since its release. Never judge a book by its cover, as this would mean you would miss out on a little piece of musical.

Pros:
Modern production values.

Cons:
Nothing particularly new here, just a nice clean production.

Oh Mercy is another one of those strangely ignored albums Dylan released in between Infidels and Time Out Of Mind. Like Good As I Been To You, Oh Mercy is a strong effort by a mature artist fully in command of his idiom. The producer was Daniel Lanois who also produced the highly acclaimed Time Out Of Mind. On Oh Mercy It is not merely his choice of backing musicians or sound engineering, but his own talent as a guitarist that helped to achieve the moody, contemplative sound. He is particularly effective on Where Teardrops Fall. The album opens with Political World which harkens back to many..
