  Obscured by the Dark Side....
Review created: 06/30/08

This is a fumble between the excellent Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon. Fortunately, it's the last bummer Floyd release.

  Not so Obscured by FLOYD>>>>

So you
thought you
have heard the best of Pink Floyd,
The sound that gives you confusion
yet shows you a choice,
I'll tell something is eluding you sunshine,
this album is better than you expect it to be,
If you want to hear Floyd on their way to DARK SIDE,
Buy this CD then listen to it and cry.

A balance of Roger, Dave, and Rick and Nick making it thick.
The mood is up and down with occasional placement of meat on the ground.
A quick soundtrack they made in 1972 for film unseen because of the glue.
The music is magic and that's not a crock, because some of these tunes are actually rock!
I listened today and was glad to hear that music still sounds good without drinking beer.
The lyrics are good and the melodies great and Dave's guitar soars like a bird on a plate.
Roger chimes in with his wit and his brain yet this album makes me think he's not that insane.
Rick is a lonely soul throughout Floyd's existence, on Obscured by Clouds you really can't miss him.
A MOOG and a Hammond, piano and chime these tunes tunes have the flavor of the legendary TIME.
Finally Nick Mason, let us not misplace him, in the fold of a brief ripple in line.
In his career he has carried the whimsical and scary thoughts of his crazy yet practical friends.
Solid and clean the drum skins did seem all the more better when presented with letters.
A back beating man, mallet in hand, gave the crescendo it's finale to wait for the next album was best.

To sum up as an American man I am a floyd fan but I miss my mind the most.
Sometimes Obscured helps you see clearly the things that you burnt out while making your toast.

To those folks that think "The Wall" is the greatest Floyd CD (it certainly seems to get the most radio play, at least around these parts) I would ask that you listen to this CD with open ears. While it doesn't have the universal appeal of "Dark Side of the Moon" or "The Wall", this CD represents a much more intimate and concise view of a band that was near the top of their game rather than beginning the long slow descent into self-parody (sorry!) This is a beautifully crafted group of songs which displays an incredible array of style and a touch of class as well. I've owned this offering in LP and CD form and it simply doesn't get old; it's like fine wine and just gets better with age and repeated listenings. For me, this CD represents the post-Barrett Floyd infinitely better than some of their later releases. I agree with the theory that the more time that went by without the influence of Syd, the less focused and enjoyable the music became (although I still think they were pretty damn good even THEN). So my advice is to turn off the telly, grab a cold one from the fridge and crank this CD up any time of the day or night---I think you'll be thoroughly entertained; I know I still am.

  Wot's...uh the deal

Obscured is my least favorite Floyd album. I can't quite put my finger on why, all I know is that it does not appeal to me like the rest of their work does. The one standout gem is wot's...uh the deal which is a sweet, mellow, pop song. The true Floyd fan needs this in their collection. The rest of you might want to get everything else first and come back to this one if you like still need more. 3 1/2 Stars.

Pink Floyd - Obscured By Clouds
Review created: 05/09/07

A good Pink Floyd album, previous to Darkside of the Moon, has some good instrumentals. Not one of their greatest albums (in my opinion) but it is a must have for Pink Floyd fanatics!

First album that dabbles into Roger Walters life, mostly about his father. The first Floyd album to use the VCS 3 synthesizer. The first album you should listen to if you are just starting to get into Floyd. Has pretty much all of Pink Floyds styles from start to finish.

Awesome album. Also this is the first I believe that dabbles in instrumental songs.. and long series of instrument mayhem.

Obscured By The Dark Side Of The Moon?
Review created: 08/29/02
by: headlessparrot -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
It's Pink Floyd. Need I say more?

Cons:
Where did Dave Gilmour's beautiful guitar tone go?

Pink Floyd fans are indeed a fickle bunch. No Pink Floyd fan ever seems to think that Dark Side Of The Moon is their best album. I mean, how could it even be fathomable that the band s best work also happens to be their best selling. Oh, the mainstream is too stupid to realize that! Come on guys, you re not fooling anyone. Not only are Floyd fans fickle about the band, there s a great number of them who are, quite frankly, terribly pretentious a*sholes (not directed towards any of the PF fans here at Epinions, mind you). I guess some of these people just can t accept that the band s most...

  An Obscure Masterpiece
Review created: 06/19/04

Pros:
Great relaxed sound, good playing from everyone, beautiful melodies, good lyric writing

Cons:
None at all!

After hearing "Echoes" it was easy to see that the band was going for a new sound. Very soon after completing Meddle, Pink Floyd started working on a new album which was to become Dark Side Of The Moon, their infamous chart-breaking album. However, during the recording sessions for Dark Side Of The Moon, there was a rather small, and rather unknown Pink Floyd work released. It was "Obscured By Clouds". This LP was the soundtrack to a Barbet Schroeder film, much like More was 3 years before it. The film, this time, was "The Valley". The album was recorded over the course of two weeks at the...

  Obscure Floyd

Pros:
David Gilmour pours his guitar genius all over this album, Great song writing for an album that was supposedly "thrown together"

Cons:
It's overlooked by many because it's a soundtrack album...

Some people don't know that Pink Floyd has written the music for a few soundtracks. They scored the music for two Barbet Schroeder films (French director of Single White Female), More and La Vallee. Obscured By Clouds was recorded for use in the film La Vallee. It's the story of a bored and rich girl (are there any other kind?) named Viviane who decides to go adventuring in a mystical land sounds like perfect ground for The Floyd doesn't it? Luckily for fans, and for rock enthusiasts as a whole, this album is first rate. The lyrics aren't bad for an album that was supposedly "thrown together".

  Yet Another Movie
Review created: 06/12/00
by: Jacek -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Dave's guitar, all the vocals, lyrics, music... practically everything.

Cons:
Overlooked

Well, it is! Kind of... or should I say it's yet another soundtrack. Barbaret Schroeder yet again asks Pink Floyd to make music for his second film, La Valee, name later changed to The Valley: Obscured by Clouds, and finally just Obscured by Clouds. This album is amazing and there is not one moment that I don't like on the album. Obscured by Clouds is a great way to open an album, and a great instrumental, too. I, though, like When You're In more, the second track, but they're both really good. Then we're led into Burning Bridges, a slow eerie tune, with vocals combined by Roger Waters and...

  My favorite PF album

Pros:
Wot's...uh, the deal?

Cons:
The end of Absolutely Curtains

THIS IS MY FAVORITE ALBUM! The only thing that gets me is that only the hard-core Floydians have heard of it. This gem was the soundtrack album to "La Vallee", a movie about herion addicts (oh, how sweet!) I listen to this one more than any other one. Some of the Floyd's best work is on here. I just want more people to know about it. My favorite song is on this album (Wot's...uh the deal). Isn't that a great title?! Anyways, this underrated album is superb and flawless, which is incredible knowing that it was written, recorded, and produced in 2 weeks! Congrats to the Floyd for such a...
