be careful!! unit doesn't hold up . warranty useless!

only had unit for 7 months/phone was sitting on my desk. I opened it once to check time and put back on desk. 20 minutes later, I went to check again, and there was a burn spot on the lcd. returned to t-mobile, and was told it was not covered by warranty due to physical damage. Problem being, the only time the unit ever got anywhere close to being dropped, it fell about 2 feet onto my shoe, and then rolled onto the carpet. The unit worked fine for several months after that. The only possibility was the envelope t-mobile sent to return the phone in. It was a small shipping sleve that the phone barely fit into, and gave very little protection. BEWARE! this can happen to you!!!

excellent phone, nice smooth slip up and down, excellent quality screen, easy to navigate, the purple/lilac one looks very nice. The best features on this phone are (1) the very loud and clear speakerphone (2) the easy MP3 music playing right from the side buttons, no need to go thru menus (3) the camera, again very easy to use (4) the video comes with very clear sound.

Phone was delivered very quickly. A little bit of damage but in great condition for the price. This is usually a $300 phone that I got for under $150!!! Thank you again!!!

  A jukebox in a phone

I bought this phone as a gift for my daughter. She wanted an MP3 & MP4 player
so i decided to buy her this phone with those features included. It is amazing the sound this phone has. The quality is just excellent. Along with the many other extras you get is an excellent buy. I would recommend it specially to teenagers, makes a great gift. The only thing with this phone is that the battery doesn't last long. Maybe so many features playing runs the battery very quick. A good idea would be having a couple of extra batteries. Other wise this phone is a great asset for my daughter.

Well I am very upset about my purchase. I 1st received the phone and it did not work. So I had to take it to the post office and pay additional postage to send it back. So the gentleman sent me another phone. So now all of the sudden the phone just stopped working, and says error in connection. I wrote the person I bought the phone from and asked him for my money back this time and he said ok. So i sent the phone back today. I wont buy any more off ebay I will be calling t-mobile.

It just didn't work for me

I had the misfortune of owning two of these handsets, and as you can see by my title, I wasn't pleased with either of them.

I got the 5300 as an insurance replacement for my Nokia 6133 which was run over by a car (but still worked). Feature for feature the phones are very similar, with a couple notable differences. This phone can actually play MP3 files as ringtones without having to convert them to Windows Media Audio (WMA) files, whereas my older 6133 couldn't, and it had the external player buttons, and a better headset setup. This phone also is not a quadband world capable phone, whereas the 6133 was. TMobile claimed that shouldn't make a difference in the US, but it did seem to affect me, as this phone simply didn't work out for me as well as the 6133.

I admit that I had troubles out of the box with both handsets I received. The first one I had would randomly lose audio (which I found out from TMobile wasn't as rare to the model as one would think), and it also kept eating my minutes. Something I later figured out was from poor lock settings. The bad thing about locking the phone is that if you lock it, and set the auto lock, it also locks the external player buttons, a minor nuisance, but it is VERY easy to unlock (just slide the slider up and down). TMobile eventually replaced the first handset I had with a second one, and that one would just randomly lose signal. I would lose signal in areas I usually had excellent service, and when I borrowed other phones from TMobile users, those phones did not have the signal loss I received. This also occured while I was in Columbus, Ohio, and TMobile has VERY GOOD coverage there, but not on my 5300.

After that I ended up copntacting TMobile and requesting another 6133 instead of this phone, and I have been much happier, although I did like some of the extras on this phone that weren't on the 6133, I just feel that the 6133 is a better handset altogether.

While this didn't happen with my phone, I have also heard that it is easy to ruin the main LCD screens on this handset, and while I didn't ruin my screen, my first handset did get a decent sized scratch on the screen, and I have no idea how it happened, as I never dropped the phone.

I hope that if anyone uses this phone they have better luck with it than what I did, because if it actually works as it is supposed to, it could be a really good phone, but it just didn't work out for me

  For GENTLE use only

The Nokia 5300 is truly the best phone I have ever owned. When I say "best" I mean the most features offered. However, I'm using my third one. My first Nokia 5300 died in 4 days. I'm really not even sure what happened to it. I put it on my desk, walked away, came back and the screen was shot out. There was a huge multi-colored blob all the way across the screen. So, I returned it. My second Nokia 5300 lasted 2 weeks. One by one, the sound profiles quit working. At first it would ring once and then stop making me think the person hung up. Then it just quit ringing all together. Now I'm on my third Nokia 5300. This one is crappy quality. The slider feels off of it's grooves, it squeaks when I push certain keys, and the buttons stick. I'm really disappointed and am planning on exchanging this phone for another model all together.

Pros:
Screen is Amazing
Good sound quality
Dedicated music buttons
incredible FM Radio range
keyboard good for texting even with large hands

Cons:
Easily breakable!
when slid into the up position it is shaky
Background noise is loud
Pitch is a little off

In conclusion:
This is a very nice phone but it seems like you need to handle it as if were a raw egg that will burst at any given moment. This is not a phone for anyone that has any sort of activity in their life. Two of my other friends also have this phone and we are all on at least number two or three.

However, if you think you can handle it gently enough (I mean VERY gently) go for it. It's got some awesome capabilities.

Just got it today - A great phone - Packed with value

Nokia ExpressMusic 5300

Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase of the T-Mobile Branded, Black Nokia 5300.

It packs a lot of value and is a great mp3 player alternative.

BUT:
If you want a phone that is a phone, this is NOT the phone for you. This phone is all about music, imaging, and fun. The call quality could be better. Slight high-pitched tone/background noise in all calls. Callers can hear me fine though. Speaker phone/Music speakers are adequate. Screen is bright and easy to read. Keys feel good to the touch. Easy to navigate.
Phone could be a little HEAVIER. Feels light in the hand - does not feel like it could survive a fall

There are a few issues that Nokia could improve but all-in-all, this is one of my favorite phones. Nokia quality, Nokia phone.

Peace

At first I didn't like this phone

When I first got this phone I absolutely HATED it!! I was even thinking of returning the phone inasmuch as I felt it looked like a kiddy phone. However, I took the phone to the beach and was blown away by the awesome sound of the FM radio. As for the phone itself, the clarity and range are excellent...best ever!! The only con is the battery life isn't the greatest, so if you are a heavy user charge the phone daily and have a car charger on hand. But if you are into music and want a fantastic phone, go for it!!

The Best and Worst phone ever
Review created: 03/31/07
by:
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The Nokia 5300 is truly the best phone I have ever owned..
Sadly my best phone only lasted 23 days
After a slight bump off of a table the inside of the screen was destroyed, somehow there was not even a slight scratch on the screen but the inside was destroyed. I would not recommend this phone to anyone who uses a phone for even normal use.

Pros:
Screen is Amazing
Good sound quality
Dedicated music buttons
Radio
keyboard good for texting even with large hands
expandable up to 2gb (micro sd)

Cons:
Easily breakable
camera quality is garbage
when slid into the up position it is shaky

In conclusion:
This is a very nice phone but it seems if you want it to last you need to keep it in an air tight container because there are many other poor reviews online of the same thing that happened to mine.

However if you think that you will not break it go for it because it is a very nice phone.
