Nine originally burst onto the Broadway scene in 1982 with Raul Julia in the lead role of Italian film director Guido Contini. Based loosely on the Fellini movie 8 , with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, Nine was a modest success running 732 performances and winning several Tony s including ones for the delightful Lilianne Montevecchi as featured actress in a musical, director Tommy Tune, Yeston s music and lyrics and finally one as best musical. Nine was revived by director David Leveaux in the spring of 2003 winning Tony awards for best revival of a musical and best featured actress..
