This musical is amazing! It is upbeat but serious at the same time. It is mostly historically accurate for any history lovers and has great voices like a young Christian Bale. This is a good movie for young children but also very popular with young adults. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes history or a good song or two.

This movie is history in a novel form. It is very enjoyable to watch, clean, easy to follow the plot and informativce as to "how things were back then".

  Great Fun Musical!
Review created: 12/04/06

I saw this movie on tv and really liked it so I decided to buy it for my own personal collection. Being one who normally doesn't like musicals, this one "rocks". The music is very catchy and upbeat, except for a couple love songs that are good also. It is a great family film for school-aged kids up to adults. If you enjoy musicals or any of the stars in this movie (Bill Pullman, Christian Bale[Batman Returns], etc..) you will most likely not be disappointed.

I love it all! The music and coreography are enchanting, catchy and fun, and I love the fact that there is so little "violence" and no swear words. Very enjoyable family film.

This is a brill film. I first saw this film 13 years ago. I own almost every collectable you can of this film. The actors personally picked play their parts excellently. Very impressive dancing and singing from young actors whom had never done anything like this before. In relation to history (as it is based on a true story) the film makers made every effort, and you really feel like you are back in 1899. The soundtrack for this film is avaliable on CD and not only do you have a complete collection of all the songs sung by the actors, but a lot of the background music is on, so clasical music people will also love the CD even if they have not seen the film. The songs are very well written and help to explain the story/add even more feeling to the amazing acting/singing/dancing. There are alot of famous actors in this film, and this really shows us what they can do. For example Max Casella (Vinnie in Doogie Howser MD) Is a excellent tap dancer, and during one of his work breaks he designed the tap routine that is now used during the song 'The King Of New York'. If you like musicals or films with a lot of heart this is a definate buy for you.

The Newsies - "Never Fear, Brooklyn is Here!"

Pros:
Great cast, great acting, and Christian Bale sings and dances

Cons:
...Christian Bale sings and dances?

I remember watching this movie back in '92 when it first came out, and I loved it. Granted, I wasn't old enough to really pay attention to the actors or the quality of the acting, but if you love a movie, it's got to count for something, right? I don't know what possessed me to take a look at this movie again, but I just remembered that it had been forgotten along with so many other good movies, and I wanted to watch it again to really gauge its caliber. Was it lame, and was I too young to notice? I tend to do that a lot. I was curious to find out what it would look like the second time...

  Spread the Word Newsies!

Pros:
Wonderful musical with some great performances.

Cons:
None

Newsies is a wonderful musical based on the Newsboys strike of 1899. After the United States completed a Civil War to abolish slavery, the industrial cities, then decide it was alright to enslave their youth. This is a wonderful fictionalized account of the Newsboys in New York City, striking to get better treatment and better pay. The film illustrates a period in history in which there were no child labor laws. As a result, America's youth were treated only slightly better than slaves. At the center of the strike was Newspaper owner, Joseph Pulitzer (Robert Duvall). One of America's most...

Carryin' The Banner...Newsies: one of the best cult classics.

Pros:
The music, Christian Bale, and the dancing.

Cons:
Ann-Margaret (but she's not that bad)

I have to admit, I had no idea what this movie was a year ago. Apparently it was my cousins' favorite movie, and a million of my friends love it, but I had no idea. Finally a friend of mine declared that he was performing it at his school, and my friends dictated that I see the movie. So I did. Full of great songs (Alan Menken) and some amazing dance numbers (how do they do some of those moves?!), I was enthralled. Rightly so. Newsies, although it completely bombed in the box office, has become a cult classic, and if you mention its title to a group of people, chances are someone will know...

  Unappreiciated Disney Great

Pros:
great music, dance and my favorite actor, Bill Pullman

Cons:
you may not like it if you don't care for musicals

Newsies is one of my all time favorite movies, and it saddens me that when I mention it, 9 out of 10 people have never even heard about it. I first heard of Newsies while on a backlot tour at MGM. At the end of the tour, they had a movie, of upcoming Disney Movies, and Newsies was listed. Immeadatly it looked interesting to me, and I never forgot about it, but was a long time before I found it and was able to watch it. Since then, its been such a favorite of mine. Taking place before the 1900's its set around paper sellers "Newsies" who revolt against who they work for, because they are...

  Run screaming from the roomsies

Pros:
You are watching it on tape and your VCR has a stop button.

Cons:
Someone thought of the idea, and it was all downhill from there.

This is my first reactionary opinion. I make no claims to really be any sort of expert on what is a good movie and what isn't. Opinions are just my opinions. Even if I was an expert on movies, my particular field of expertise would certainly not be musical movies made to impress 12-year-old girls. But, as I stumbled across this movie here (quite accidently I assure you) and noticed that there was not one person who had written an opinion not recommending this movie, I really felt action must be taken. As I said, this opinion is completely reactionary on my part and I will try my best to stay..
