Why you bought it... I wanted a general go to book for homeowner projects from a reliable name that I could trust.
What you like most about it... It's easy to follow and very well illustrated. It has practical applications and not the "lets make a planter out of a 1950's milk container" projects that are more for cub scouts than a handyman.
What you dislike about it... not a thing....it could have some more carpentry projects, but it really is worth the money.
Highly recommend this book! My grandparents left their copy (from 1977) to me. The 1977 DIY manual has so much valuable information in it, I was amazed! The current, more up-to-date manual must be fantastic. It has everything from woodworking to plumbing to electrical to heating and air conditioning, including ductwork. Just incredible!
This book would be the absolute perfect gift for someone who is buying a home, new or preowned.
I bought this book to help me fix small "common" issues around the house. I have yet to use it, but the instructions are pretty easy to follow, and looking forward to putting it to use.
My son-in-law just bought a home and was very happy to have a very detail DIY reference book. My daughter and son-in-law were buying their first home and they are in the military and will move around alot and needed to be able to buy fixer uppers and so he needed to know how to fix them and this book gave him a lot of info and instruction. He was very pleased. He actually fixed something a few minutes after receiving it.
The book is very easy to understand, with step-by-step instructions on how to repair something. Very thorough too! A thumbs up for anyone looking for an easy to understand do it yourself manual on home repairs, simple electrical, etc.
I bought this book for my son that recently purchased a new home. It has multiple guidelines to fix things in the house, from Plumbing to electricity. He was very pleased.

Pros: clear, detailed instructions for common home repairs; great introductory "shop" manual
Cons: badly in need of updating - some information almost two decades out of date
When you own an old house, the fun seems to never stop. The house we owned in Denver had been "born" the same year as my dad, 1910 - and the chores and little repairs were a never-ending circle. Now I live in a house that was slapped together in the early 1980s, and I'm here to tell ya - they don't build 'em like they used to! The chores are still never-ending, and now the construction and materials are far less durable than the brick bungalow on West 41st that I remember so fondly. Being both fairly handy and rather thrifty, I try to do as many of my household repairs as I possibly can. I'm..

Pros: Almost any kind of project can be found in this book.
Cons: none
I bought this book for my husband last year for Christmas. He's not too much of a handyman but he tries sometimes! This book gives you step by step details on hundreds "around the house" projects. The books has 17 chapters (over 500 pages) plus a section in the back on Metric Conversion. The instructions are very detailed and there are step by step pictures on almost every single page of the book! (It's a man's version of the ultimate cookbook!) Ch. 1 Emergency Repairs This chapter is a guide for such things as natural disasters (what to do to protect and repair your home in times of a...
