Router works as expected. No ports left open to the outside world. Nevertheless, I disconnect the wan side when we are not using it, for absolute protection. Unfortunately, the router automatically tries to sync its time with a NetGear time server. Tech support said this can't be stopped or re-routed to my local lan, since I have a time server. Two NetGears tech gave me the same response, I think they just take the words from your email and send them back to you in a form letter.
I have bought many Netgear Networking items on ebay and this one is another of the great ones, works first time and every time, item was as described and was working from the first time powered up upon installation. I can always count on Netgear site for product information and updates, excellent brand name and support.

Good equipment, the NetGear RP614 Router guarantees a good flexibility of planning and associate with other equipments (Switch or Access Point) it results attainable is in formality "Wired" that "Wireless". Its use is recommended for creating a private Net for Fastweb clients and to overcome the obstacle of a limited number of IP tied to the doors of the HUG. Personally I have not found anybody guide in Italian, and some formulation is not clear. For the neophytes - as the undersigned - some problem can be introduced. For the rest: all OK!
I already have an RP614 initial version which performs very well. I thought that upgrading my hardware and software was an excellent occasion to upgrade the router also. I have not been able to use it and I have already spent all the time I could afford. Maybe it has a manufacturing defect.
The Netgear RP614 Router has performed up to my expectations. I have it linked to a PC and a Playstation 3. And I am able to play Madden online and surf the web simultaneously. I recommend this router if you want a plain and simple way to add your Internt service to other systems.
I was running a clarkconnect gateway at home when I decided to retire it. Alot of people dont seem to understand that spyware and malware will chew up your bandwidth. If your computer savy, any router will treat you right. This was rated one of the best due to its amazingly low response times.
This router has been great since Tech Support & I got it going. The setup was a bit of a challenge since it was used and did not come with a disk but, they were keen to help me even after I told them I bought it used on ebay. I am running two systems with XP SP2, one with Win 98, and a VOIP modem. I have never noticed a problem with speed or function. I love it and will look to NetGear in the future.
I bought a used netgear rp614 router for netwoking an internet connection between a MAC and PC, all I had to do was plug it in, the router auto detects your internet settings.I've had it for about 4 months and have had no problems period.plus it's real slim and small.
Recently just bought one of these and the signal strenght is totally awesome. If you want great wireless service then you should try this router out asap! Under $40 at walmart so go get it! - Gene
I bought a Netgear RP614 Router a few weeks ago, i am very satisfied with the product, it was in excellant condition, i got it off ebay because at the time i didn't have the money to buy a new one and i needed one real bad, very satisfied customer
I had a Linksys Wireless-G with Speedbooster which wasn't giving me the throughput I needed for internet video, so I thought NetGear's RP614 with the hyped MIMO functionality would give it to me in my neighborhood where there was a lot of competing WIFI traffic without having to buy new PC adapters. It was also relatively cheap. Not only was it's signal weaker, but with some adapters, the connection would cycle on and off every few seconds. I looking forward to the Ruckus Mediaflex which is supposed to truly take advantage of MIMO functionality.
Pros: Easy to install to setup Cons: Constant connection dropout (have to pull out the plug to reset it)
Bottom line: Good for sharing an internect connection between 2 computers and thats about it. Not recommended if you have over 2 computers because of the constant dropping of connection.
Works great with three PC's and Xbox 360 all at same time. Has never dropped connection. Purchased the netgear used to replace a popular brand router which had become very unstable.
I have one of these at home and it works great for having my internet connection on all the time and shared between my two pc's. But now I have an xbox 360, I have found that when three things are connected up to it, the internet connection will be lost. This is quite annoying as I have to unplug a PC if I want to use the 360 online...
I must point out that it is quite old now and this may be down to wear and tear somehow...
I bought this router because i wanted to have the onternet in another part of my home. I liked the fact that it showed me a connection. On the other hand I did not like the fact that it didn't work. It showed me a connection but nothing was displayed on the screen.
