I have been using a Netgear FVS318 for over 2 years. Replaced a Linksys router that failed.
Reason for the purchase of this unit was as a backup. My ISP was having trouble and of course they always blame it on the customer first so I decided to purchase another FVS318 just to make sure that it was not my system that was giving them problems.
I have never had a problem with my NetGear unit. Set up is a no brainer. Just plugged it in and reset the modem and it was on. Very user friendly unit. In fact I could not live without this 8 port box. My world would collapse.
I would recomend this unit to anyone that likes ease of setup and operation. The FVS318 just sets there and blinks at me. I print though the network and also have VoIP on the system ahead of the router. The old NetGear unit was not nearly as easy to operate. Did not have the firewall that the FVN318 has. Or was it as user friendly. After two year I can safely say that the NetGear router is one of the most dependable components in my small office system.
I purchased my first FVS318 at retail, paying about $160.00. This unit was a steal on the Bay. From my experience with the unit, I would still have paid the $160.00 that I did as it is well worth the cost for the headache that it saves.
Backing up files across the network is such an easy task and the peace of mind that I won't lose data is even better yet. Computers are at the best undependable, but having the ability to back them up across the network with a user friendly router, such as the FVS318, makes up for the short fall of a computer.
