I'm a huge Wayne Gretzky fan and have followed his career since the mid 80's. This DVD was a great biographical recount of his career and his life. It's pretty much the same as the regular version. The difference is that the Special edition has 5 games of Gretzky's Greatest Games in their entirety. I think this is a misnomer, actually. Those games should be described as Gretzky's 5 games that showed his greatest accomplishments (50 goals in 39 games, 4 goals in All-star Game, goal #802, etc.) But they definitely weren't the 5 greatest games he ever played. I've seen some of his games where he dominated the other team. He may not have set any records during these games and may not have dominated the score sheet, but it was some of the finest hockey ever played. The decision to use these existing 5 games on the DVD was a poor choice. In my opinion, they should have had games from Game 2 of Canada Cup 87 Finals, Game 4 part II Stanley Cup Finals 1988, Game 5 Stanley Cup Finals in 1985, Campbell Conference Finals Game 6 1993, and Gretzky's final game of the season 1999. Those games showed Gretzky at his finest, although he didn't set any records during those games and in some cases he didn't even score. But I think a true hockey fan would appreciate the genius of the plays he made over just watching him just slap the puck into the net all day.
I would recommend just getting the regular version.
This is a great DVD set that tells the story of Wayne's career. With interviews from NHL stars and Wayne himself rounding out the highlight footage, this story is put together very well. This special edition comes with 5 of Wayne's best games in thier entirety including: Wayne's 50th goal in his 39th game, goal 802, the 1983 All-Star game, the 1984 Stanley Cup Finals game 5 and the 1993 Western Conf. Finals game 7. With over 668 minutes of highlights and bonus materials this 4 DVD set is a must have for hockey fans.
