Mystic Pizza (1989, VHS)

  The pleasures of Mystic Pizza
Review created: 07/06/01

Pros:
Strong characters, pleasant story line

Cons:
-

I started to watch Mystic Pizza this afternoon during a commercial break in a television show. I wasn't expecting much, but what a delightful surprise this movie is. I was drawn into the lives of three fascinating young women, and never made it back to the tv show I was watching. Mystic is a small fishing town in Connecticut that becomes a busy resort in the summer. Mystic Pizza is the local hangout, with the best pizza in the state. Daisy, Cat, and JoJo, three young Portuguese women, work there and most of the story revolves around them. Nothing much happens in this film, yet I felt totally..

Mystic Pizza: This Pie is Remarkably Un-Cheesy
Review created: 03/10/05
by: beckytcy -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Three main actresses, generally realistic, fun, sweet

Cons:
predictable, a few unrealistic moments, soundtrack

Director Donald Petrie should have quit after 1988 s Mystic Pizza since his later work pales in comparison. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Miss Congeniality, Welcome to Mooseport? * Cringe * Mystic Pizza is a chick flick in that it s a coming-of-age story about three girls, but it lacks some of the painful clich s that many romantic comedies feature. The characters are likable and realistic, and it s generally cute and fun. I once heard a theory that if there s a show or film with three women in it, the females fall into three main types: the cute one, the smart one, and the ho. However, each..

A True Slice Of Heaven ......
Review created: 01/30/02
by: Freak369 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Nice plot, exceptional characters, realistic story line.

Cons:
A few minor bloopers, but nothing that can be called a 'con'.

~~ WARNING Chick Flick WARNING ~~ With that being said, you ve been given fair warning. You ll find no gore, axe wielding murderers or alien life forms in this film. No karate sequences, no chase scenes and no stunt doubles. So why bother renting this? Beside the obvious [Julia Roberts looking her absolute best] you ll get a chance to see Matt Damon - on film - in his first motion picture role sure fodder for movie trivia addicts. Mystic Pizza is a must see for many reasons; the plot is extremely predictable but that doesn t take away from the film s overall charm. It is a touching look at a..

"A Little Slice of Heaven" -- Mystic Pizza
Review created: 10/12/01
by: DavidMac -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
The performances of the three starring actresses.

Cons:
Rather quaint, many cliched and misguided elements in the storyline.

Mystic Pizza is a 1988 film about three young women and their experiences. Primarily, the subject is romance, although there are side issues of wanting to break out of the small town of Mystic, Connecticut. And of course the girls work as waitresses at the homey little pizza joint called The Mystic Pizzeria ("A Little Slice of Heaven"). The movie is overall rather quaint; not exactly a masterpiece, although it will do for 104 minutes. The three women are played by Julia Roberts, Annabella Gish and Lili Taylor. Roberts and Gish are sisters, and Taylor is their best friend, who, at the start..

It's true, I'm totally infatuated with Annabeth Gish
Review created: 07/10/03

Pros:
<BR/>The lovely Annabeth Gish, entertaining story

Cons:
Boring male characters

It's absolutely true, I truly and unashamedly am obsessed with Annabeth Gish, owner of the sweetest of smiles and down-to-earth personality...I even went so far as to watch the godawful "Steel" just to see her smiling face (And it's a shame that they didn't allow her to show that wonderful smile much on "The X Files", while we're at it, but that's going off on a bit of a tangent). Anyway, that's neither here nor there, I'm supposed to be discussing "Mystic Pizza", which is one of Annabeth's best. And yet, whenever it is advertised on TV, the film is advertised as a Julia Roberts film. Is this.
