  Hey, Nonny, Nonny!
Review created: 06/04/08(updated 06/12/08)

A wonderful movie, Kenneth Branagh succeeds in bringing Shakespearian English to the masses in a manner both comprehensible and enjoyable.

Set in the late 16th century, ˝Much ado About Nothing˝ brings Beauty to the eye and Laughter into our hearts and minds.

The acting is superb, with the exception of Keanu Reeves who suffers greatly from being in the company of so many accomplished actors. Denzel Washington is a pleasant surprise and seems quite at ease with his distinguished co-stars and Emma Thompson is quite wonderful as Beatrice… But then, she’s always a pleasure to watch. Michael Keaton seems a bit out of place in this ensemble, but his rendition of Dogberry is quite a riot.

It may not be for one and all, but everyone should give it a try, for you might be surprised and discover, as many have, that this movie truly is quite a treat.

It remains one of my all time favorites

Hey, nonny, nonny!

Much Ado About Nothing - DVD
Review created: 02/07/08

I just LOVE this movie, and I have not been able to acquire it before now, so when I saw it available for such a great price on ebay, I had to have it. It's ridiculous and silly and really is much ado about nothing. Delightfully, the 'foreigners' speak with a foreign-to-England accent even if it's American, Michael Keaton is SUCH a hoot, Branaugh and Thompson tear each other marvellously to shreds with their clever wits and if the Shakespearean lingo sounds oddly more genuine rolling off of the smooth tongues of those experienced in British Theatre, it's still really cool to hear Denzel Washington spice up the Bard's comedy. I know it's not for everyone, but I could watch this over and over and laugh the harder each time for grasping humour that I missed in previous watches. :D Shakespeare can be fun!

  Much Ado About Nothing (DVD)
Review created: 08/08/07

This is really a fun movie, with good acting and wonderful characters. The plot is interesting and a little complicated. The actors are great and really know how to deliver Shakespeare English so that it is easy to understand. The only thing I didn't like was a scene at the first of the movie when everyone is bathing and we have to look at a bunch of nude rear ends! That was completely unecessary to the movie. Other than that, it is one of my favorite movies.

  The fun side of Shakespeare

I've always liked Shakespeare. Bought this movie because I had seen it on tv and loved it. Now with the dvd at home I've watched lots of times.
Wonderful aotors like Kenneth Branagh, Denzel Washington, Michael Keaton, Keanu Reeves, Emma Thompson, Robert Sean Leonard and many more!

The photography is awesome, makes you want to be there.

You will have a wonderful time watching this movie, even teens love it, at least my kids do, the first time I asked them to watch it with me they thought it would be the most boring time but now they've watched it as many times as me.

You will never regret it, get it!

  It has it all!

Well, before I start, I would like to tell everyone that I saw this movie because it was part of my Humanity class in college, the teacher showed us the video in-class. He chose this movie because we are talking about the beginning of theater and Shakespeare's plays.

Going into this movie, I thought It was going to be boring, I really did. After watching a little more than 15mins of it, I realized that It was not "boring".

The movie as a whole is very watch-worthy. I love the setting of the movie and the cast as well. Everyone seems to fit his role quite well. The story is awesome as well.

This movie has it all, its Funny, its Dramatic, and its Suspenseful in someway as well. I highly recommend watching this movie, you will not regret it.

-George

Much Ado About Nothing?? It's really Something!!
Review created: 11/12/06

I saw this movie while I was in the 1st Gulf War on a submarine during movie night. And I have watched it at least 10 times since. I sincerely recommend this one and hope you all find it as witty and fun as I did!!

This movie really has it all!! Mystery, Drama, Suspense, Murder, & Comedy. The setting of this Shakespearian play is set back in the olden days when people rode around on horses, virginal women had bed maids to watch over them as they slept, and people spoke in "proper" style. If you can stand that speech, then you will love this movie.

All of the actors really outdone themselves. Even Keanu Reeves, as a bad guy, done a good job, really he did. There are a couple of parts in the movie that may take a little explaining to the younger kids, but all in all it is a great feature for all ages. Well at least 12 and up. Lol...

Denzel does a great job as playing royalty. He is the leader of a band of men who are taking a break from fighting. And Michael Keaton... he is hilarious!! Emma Thompson is excellent as a snooty, snappy, and witty gal. The whole cast is just awesome!!

Don't wanna give away too much of it to ruin it for anyone so just watch it and write your own review. I'd love to read it to see what others think of it!

It's a really fun movie to watch- a perfect presentation of one of Shakespeare's greatest comedies. The character, for the most part, are acted vividly and with great understanding. Emma Thompson is an amazing Beatrice, and she lights up the screen and makes it a great film!

  Something For Nothing
Review created: 12/10/04

Pros:
Emma Thompson. Kenneth Brannagh. Brian Blessed. Denzel Washington (suprisingly).

Cons:
Michael Keaton. Keanu Reeves.

I have handed in my resignation to the staff at Camp Sisterwood and have officially washed my hands of their project, Bodice Ripper. Let them find someone else to try and turn their motley crew of jackbooted truck drivers into a set of ethereal ladies of the evening for their feminist take on the Jack the Ripper story. I am too old, at my ever youthful thirty-nine, to put up with such nonsense. Of course this does leave me somewhat at loose ends as there is no project lined up. I have telephoned Joseph, my manager, to immediately signal my availability as an artist to discriminating producers.

Making Much Ado About This Movie

Pros:
Beautiful scenery, lots of laughs, great dialog

Cons:
Keanau Reeves so-called acting

I m going to have a hard time explaining my two-year-old s vocabulary to his grandparents and future teachers. He doesn t yet say his name or grandpa. He does, though, say cuckold (courtesy of his dad memorizing a Shakespearean monologue), hoody hoo (don t ask!), and now he sings, hey, nonny, nonny. Perhaps if his parents were not such huge Shakespeare fans, he wouldn t suffer from such a misshapen vocabulary. However, we all must warp our children in one way or another, so I suppose this is what he must endure. Both my husband and I loved Kenneth Brannagh s Much Ado About Nothing when it...

My Boyfriend Laughed and I Cried at this Romantic Comedy
Review created: 05/13/01
by: dianalynnxk -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Very strong plot that's easy to follow, great acting, especially by Kenneth Branagh and Thompson

Cons:
Some of the Characters were bland, though well developed, and monotonous.

Kenneth Branagh managed to do it again! He took a classic Shakespeare play and turned it into a movie! And oh did he succeed! Not only is the movie true to the 1598 play, which Shakespeare called a "tragic comedy," but most of the character are even more developed and you get a better sense of experiencing their trials and affairs. IDEA: Kenneth Branagh, who has directed many a movie taken by Shakespeare, gives wings to Much Ado About Nothing. The plot remains the same as two couples face some drastic problems that are dramatically delt with and faced. Beatrice and Benedict are forced to like.

  Must Watch or Do Nothing
Review created: 11/20/00
by: LBert12 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Shakespearian Play with modern actors

Cons:
Hard to understand the language at times

Much Ado About Nothing is a very interesting play. The play can be broken into seven different categories and makes it very easy to follow. Without breaking the play down, it would seem hard to follow because there is a marriage, a set up, a fake and yet another marriage. The exposition of the play is when Hero and Claudio meet for the first time. This meeting will eventually lead to them getting married. The exposition is also when Benedict and Beatrice meet again and begin to snicker at each other. This will also lead to a marriage. The point of attack in the play is when Claudio realizes...

Pros:
beautiful setting for love

Cons:
confusing changes of emotion

I love this movie, absolutely love it. I first watched it when I was 15, and still enjoy it at 22. Which tells you that Shakespeare was well portrayed and easy enough for a high school kid to comprehend and mature enough for an adult to watch. The story is typical Shakespeare, couples in love and out of love, and a villian who plans to destroy them all. Emma Thompson makes an excellent Beatrice, witty, strong headed but delightfully insecure. Her counterpart Benedick played by Kenneth Braughn is hilarious in his bouts of angst and love. The cast tackled the Shakespeare language fantastically,.
