Pros:
The melodies, the instrumental playing, the arrangements

The final two songs are shrug-worthy

Rush enters the Limelight with Moving Pictures

Pros:
Powerful and timeless songs. A musical and lyrical masterpiece.

Cons:
Not a single one.

Note: This review is part of a re-writing process I'm going through on my earlier Rush entries. Some of them clearly needed a little more polish so I felt obligated to do so. Rather than delete the original and re-submit a new review, I felt it best to simply modify the original and add a notification of the updated review in PTiemann's Notification System. Thanks for reading... ... Riding on the coattails of their wildly successful last album, Permanent Waves which opened up the decade of the 80s for Rush, the power trio extraordinaire put together what is now considered one of the finest...

  The Universal Dream.

Pros:
Great lyrics and superb musicianship.

Cons:
Can't think of any.

Rush has been called the thinking man's rock band ever since they appeared on the scene in the mid 1970s. A lot of their early efforts fell firmly into the prog rock camp, with the complex lyrics of Neil Peart coupled with the singing of Geddy Lee and the wailing guitars of Alex Lifeson. Many of the lyrics have a foundation in sci-fi and philosophical themes (specifically those of Ayn Rand) After releasing complex conceptual works for much of the 70s; Rush began to move into simpler song structures in the early 80s (without sacrificing lyrics or musicianship). Moving Pictures was the second...

  Rush's best album!
Review created: 10/21/02
by: tmm2112 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Light enough to enjoy any time. Deep enough to make you think.

Cons:
None at all.

Moving Pictures is my favorite Rush album and apparently the favorite of many others as well. It is Rush s best selling studio album. While more commercial than the string of art rock collections of the 70 s, this album stands on the legs of seven strong tunes that are still far from mainstream. They are all linked by theme and it s a blast figuring out how they all relate (I won't rob you of that experience). The sound of this album is a perfect marriage of psychedelic synthesizers and growling guitars, utilizing the strengths of both without compromising the identity of either. Throw in...

Want to get into Rush? Get Moving Pictures.

Pros:
Intelligent lyrics, legendary musicianship, and it rocks - HARD.

Cons:
"The Camera Eye" isn't as fun as other Rush epics, like Natural Science or Xanadu

"A modern-day warrior/mean, mean stride/today's Tom Sawyer/mean, mean pride" With these four lines, Rush kick off their most well-known song, "Tom Sawyer," which still receives regular radio play 22 years after its release. It has endured for so long because of its unique sound - those who remember it recall its heaviness, moodiness, and the way it combined synthesizers and head-moving riffs with thought-provoking lyrics. This potent sonic blend is the result of Rush being in something of a transitory period. Over the course of three releases - 1980's Permanent Waves, 1981's Moving Pictures,..
