Motorola V180

My husband’s first phone when we first switched our service to Cingular in Feb. of 2005 was the Motorola V180. I read all the specs on it and he didn’t want anything fancy, just something that would work good, have a good battery life and get a good signal.

The Motorola V180 has the following features (Information can be found on the internet):

• Motomixer application to mix unique ringtones to play on the 24-chord polyphonic speaker

• Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) and Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS) for sending pictures, animations, wallpaper, icons and ring tones

• J2ME MIDP 2.0 support for application, ringer, wallpaper, graphic and game downloads

• Peer to peer 2-way games (SMS, GPRS and CLDC 1.0)

• Conference calling and integrated hands-free speakerphone

• Datebook and Phonebook synchronization via accessory USB cable to easily organize your life

• WAP 2.0 compliant browser with GPRS Class 10 for high-speed data transmission

It also boasted of their “quad” band network which later was reduced down to tri band and they stated it had a talk time of 5.83 hours.

This Mororola did have a good signal and it did have a good battery life and good talk time but after only a few months the phone started having static noise and it just got worse over time. Customer service tried some updates and then finally said to return the phone for a replacement and they would send the same phone. The replacement phone had the static noise upon the first use. The static on the phone was so loud that you could not even hold a conversation then it would just turn itself off and often wouldn’t power back up.

This was our second brand by Motorola and both turned out to be disappointing phones over all. My husband now has another brand phone. We didn’t try for a 3rd time on this Motorola.

It's a great phone, if you don't want all the extras. This phone doesn't have a camera, so it's pretty plain. It'll do texting and you can download ringtones onto it. I've kept this phone because I'm used to the way it's laid out and my SIM card downloads onto it.

I do not like not having a manual. I love the outside display. I would like to have the option for the display to be larger. I love the quick charge. I love the closed cover preventing you from calling someone when you do not intend to. This is the reason I bought this phone. My husband was dialing everybody under the sun when he would put his phone in his pocket or in his pants. It upset him so bad, he took the phone and throw it across the yard. That is when I went shopping and this phone seemed to be what he needed. He has stated several time, I just love my phone. No more wasted minutes to no one.

This is a fine mobile for making calls. However, it is an old model. I bought the V180 for travel in Europe and the problem with this particular mobile is that texting is even more popular in Europe than in the United States (its cheaper). Sadly this mobile phone is miserable for text messaging. The software is just far too outdated.

Otherwise, it is a relatively small mobile phone. The battery life seems fine. The audio is good. In other words, if you live in the US and your grandma needs a basic mobile this would be a good purchase if found for under $10.

If you are looking for a mobile in England, when you arrive simply head to a mobile store and buy one you can top up as you like.

what i didnt like is when i recieved the phone it was a bad phone , the problem is ,is that when you purchase a product from the net exspecially electronics the seller needs to make sure of the products performance

great transaction. Great non camera phone. An easy to use phone that can be brought into court. Good battery life. Very user freindly and has the ability for downloads.

I have been using this product for a while and has never failed me. I will keep using this model until there are no more in the market.

i wasted my money on this phone due to, the phone keeps locking up and you have to remove the battery to reset the phone the battery wont hold a charge for longer than about 1 hour. thanks for junk

This phone is small and compact. A plus for the phones that are bigger and heavier then normal. The phone has the classic motorola menu but with different wallpapers and miscellaneous smaller features. A great phone to have.

All the things I like about this phone:
I liked the look of the cell. It has a speaker and it works really well. It's a Loud speaker if you want it loud like me, and adjustable volume too for those who don't want it loud. I love my other cell the Razr but, the speaker on it is not as loud as I would like or their ringtones. I have a hard time hearing on it. It was simple to use. It's a nice flip phone to lend out to somebody. That was the reason for the purchase. To use as a business cell. I liked the variety of ringtones it comes with. The e-bay price was right. It's lightweight yet full in your hand. You don't feel like you can't hold it or it's too big or small for you. (Someone with large hands could use this no problem) ( like my mother in law). The number keys have enough space between them so you wont key another number by accident and call the wrong number. I really like the size of the number keys. Overall this is a really good simple phone to use. I had a motorola cell before the razr, I didn't like the format, it was not user friendly and was to hard to use, but after the razr they changed the motorola format (Menu) and it is much more user friendly.
If you do not want a camera phone will all the bells and whistles this is a simple well designed phone. It shows you who is calling you. It's a good phone. I like it, And I am used to the bells and whistles with the Motorola Razr.
My dislikes. Hummm...
Well it's not a camera phone, ( but we already knew that) It does't show you who's calling with a picture of the person like the razr. And it's only sold in black. Oh just a cosmetic issue, The Company Motorola could inprove on it's color choices for the personalize themes and cell colors. Also they could make all ringtones at a louder level for driving with the windows down, with the wind noise. Not to many dislikes on this cell phone.

The phone seemed to be cheaply made. Not made of good quality material. The screen on the outside of the phone did not fully show the wording/numbers, was like the writing was cut in half, only showing the bottom parts of the words. Was not able to use it for what we needed it for. (bought a sim card and it would not work)

I like the operation of the phone,but seeing the screen is extremely difficult.In order to see the screen at it's best,you have to move the screen around to many different angles until you find the best viewing angle.Most of the time the screen appears"washed out",it looks too bright with very low contrast.You have to move the screen around to different viewing angles until you find the best angle that supplies you with the best contrast. It's a pain in the..........neck!

I was looking for a plain jane cellphone, I didn't need the camera and all those other frills that runs the cost of a cellphone up. When I found this one on ebay, and it said NEW, I used the Buy It Now option to get me one. When it arrived a little over a week later, it was exactly what I needed. I put my SIMM card in it from my old phone, and Viola! It works great! Gets the job done, but is about as cheap as could be made. It's not falling apart out of the box or anything, but it's pretty minimal. Don't expect a quality feel, heavy duty, deluxe phone. Expect something a bit more "toyish". If your looking for a phone for the kids that won't cost a fortune to replace if they loose or break it, this is the one. If your the type who drives luxury cars, or big trucks, this is not the phone for you.

I like the phone. It works good for me because I'm tuff on equiment and this one can take a beating and it keeps on working. I don't need all the fancy stuff on the other phones. All I want to do is make a call. It does that well.

On battery life ...if your in an area where the phone is looking for a signal it will use up the battery faster then when when the signal is strong and there. That's because it turns up the battery power to look for the signal.

phone in good and working condition as described but battery from 2004, has to be recharged every day

My V180 lasted for 3 years-no problems no hassles and is still in fine working order. My wife bought us 2 V3 Razors for Christmas and I like it just as well and will not give up my V180 a great standby. You will not go wrong buying one of them.

It is a good phone. Not a great phone, but very functional.I have been using one of these phones for years. All I need is a phone. I don't want the newest,most technical, most memory, most songs,most photos, etc. I also don't want to sign up for 2 more years if I don't have to.
I dropped the phone and the screens went blank so I couldn't use any of my stored numbers, get voicemail, see who called, etc. By buying the same phone I have chargers, manual, and spare parts.

This is a fabulous no fuss phone. I had this phone for 3 years and then it got dropped in paint and died. I ordered another one after using several others that did not work as good. This phone works well anywhere. It gets a great signal and is very simple to use.
