The Rise and Fall of Mortal Kombat on Game Gear

Mortal Kombat had a total of three games released for the Game Gear. The first two were released in the U.S., Japan, and Europe. Mortal Kombat 3 was only released in Europe for the Game Gear. I wonder why? I remember when Mortal Kombat 3 was being advertised in video game magazines for the various consoles it was coming out on. I was happy to see that it was going to be released for the Game Gear because I had the first two games which I like much better. At no time did I see MK3 in any retail store or pawn shop. I wasn't using the internet then, so eBay wasn't an option for me. In 2005, I came across MK3 for the Game Gear(cartridge only) for what I thought was a reasonable price. That is until I actually got the game and was disappointed once I began playing. The gameplay was awful. It was rather slow and difficult to connect moves on the opponent. The computer would give you a beating like nobody's business and perform a fatality on you after it was all said and done(even on the Novice mode!). There wasn't music being played during the fights like the first two games. I did like the way the characters looked. The fatalities also looked great for what the Game Gear was capable of producing. That is the only thing I can really give the game credit for. I tried giving this game a chance to see if I could get into it. Unfortunately, this wasn't so. That's just my opinion. If you're a die-hard Mortal Kombat fan or serious game collector, pick it up by all means. Everyone else can pick it up at their discretion. I did buy another MK3 Brand New in 2006 for about $20 to add to my video game collection. MK3 has been on sale again on here Brand New for about $40 or more a couple of months ago. I wouldn't have payed that much for it though. It is rather hard to come by. I have seen auctions on here for the cartridge alone reach $30+ before shipping charges. I paid 7.50 GBP for my MK3 cartridge two years ago. I think you will find more enjoyment with the first two MK games. I know I did. Enjoy.
