If you know who Charlze Theron is, it may take you awhile before you even realize it is her while watching this movie. She is really convincing in this role. Christina Ricci has really come a long way too and worth buying this movie for alone. This movie, an account of the true story, gives you an inside view of how screwed up life is from the perspective of a murderer, sad but at the same time revealing and even educational.

Monster: An Awesome Movie about a Woman Serial Killer
Review created: 06/29/04
by: mridula -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Excellent acting, highly unconventional subject matter.

Cons:
Nothing really.

I watched Monster along with my husband and a friend. Our friend picked us up in his car, and while going to the theater we were a chatty lot, talking about this and that. After watching the movie, on our way back the same journey was completed in absolute silence. Monster is that kind of a movie, it grim, it is dark and for a while you don t even want to discuss it with anyone. I watched this movie in theatre this year (June, 2004) as many Hollywood hits are released later in India. I was already aware of the superb performance of Charlize Theron and the Oscar she got. Still I was curious if.

Pros:
Theron, Ricci, Jenkins's script and direction

Cons:
May be hard to sympathize with the title character

The life of Aileen Wuornos was a life that was never very pleasant. "Monster," which stars Charlize Theron as Wuornos, is the portrait of an abused woman who snaps and goes on a killing spree that eventually led to her arrest, and, in 2002, her execution. Lee, as she was called by the people who knew her, had spent most of her adult life as a prostitute in Florida. She didn't have much success at that line of work, and wound up living in a storage shed with the help of her friend Tom (Bruce Dern). One rainy night where she did no business, she stopped in a gay bar to get dry. It's there that..

Monster - A Tale of Lesbians, Murder and Prostitution
Review created: 01/29/04
by: remnjava -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Well done movie about prostitution, murder and lesbians.

Cons:
Foul language, but it is essential to the story.

Ever been a prostitute? Neither have I. Never been a lesbian either. Either one must be a difficult life to live. Prostitutes can be treated as the scum of the earth, yet society expects them to have socially acceptable behavior aside from their sex lives. Meet Aileen Wuornos. She goes by "Lee" in the movie. She is played by Charlize Theron - The Italian Job. Lee is about 35 years old. Down on her luck, she meets Selby (Christina Ricci - Tuesday, Adams Family) in a bar. All Lee wants to do is dry off and get warm. Selby, a lesbian, has other ideas. Finally in Lee's life, there is someone who..

2003's Monster: Charlize Theron Eerily Becomes A Serial Killer~
Review created: 01/14/07
by: jankp -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
absolutely riveting, true story; acting; music

Cons:
well, it is tragic

Aileen: "Love conquers all." "Every cloud has a silver lining." "Faith can move mountains." "Love will always find a way." "Everything happens for a reason." "Where there is life, there is hope." [laughs] Aileen: Oh, well... They gotta tell you something (from imdb.com) Journey s Don t Stop Believing ironically serves as real-life serial killer Aileen Wuornos anthem in Patty Jenkin s award-winning movie from 2003, Monster. Charlize Theron racks up a very deserving Oscar for Best Actress as she not merely portrays Wuornos, but seems to inhabit the very image and shattered personality of...

A Monster Hollywood Portrayal of a Monstrous, Misunderstood Prostitute
Review created: 01/08/04
by: romasuave -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Theron's incredible performance, interesting storyline

Cons:
Very graphic and disturbing to some, Ricci weak as Selby

Monster is the story of Aileen Wuornos, a prostitute from Florida who has served 12 years on death row and recently executed for brutally murdering 6 men, men who picked her up for sexual favors. Charlize Theron is transformed into this woman who is as complex and deadly as she is fascinating, Theron delivering one of the most powerful performances in recent memory. Here is my take on Monster. The Players: Aileen Wuornos - Charlize Theron Selby - Christina Ricci Thomas - Bruce Dern The Play: Having had a really rough childhood, coming from a really dysfunctional family with a history of...
