Mind Games [Remaster] - Lennon, John (CD 2002)

Lennon bounces back from his disastrous "Some Time In New York City" with a spirited self-produced jem. His songwriting is back in top form as he returns to a sometimes playful/sometimes serious "Rubber Soul"-esque music style. He touches on his personal life ("Aisemusin", "I Know") and on politics ("Bring On The Lucie" "Only People") but without coming across as self-indulgent. He also adds touches of fun and humor ("Tight As", "Meat City") that are non-existent on his earlier solo efforts and which Beatle fans may miss. The musicians chosen for the album are also great players. Check out the guitar solo in "Aisemusin" and the bass work in "I Know" as examples of the top notch musicianship on this album. All in all, you get the sense that Lennon was finally having fun again in making this album. And the enjoyment comes through to the listener. This may be an overlooked album by most, but should be considered a must-have for any Lennon fan.
