Realistic, accurate, educational, just plain fun!

As a private pilot, I've been interested in FS since the Apple days. I first flew a flight simulator on my Heathkit PC in 1982, using a BASIC program I entered from Heath/Zenith's magazine SEXTANT. I was able to fly it without visual references, only the gauges were visible. I've upgraded each time available, still debating on this latest release, as 2004 seems to have everything one could ask for. I've flow nearly every virtual aircraft offered, with varying degrees of success. Most often, my failures are because I 'jumped into the left seat' without reading the aircraft manuals. My favorite aircraft are the C172, the Robinson chopper, and my favorite cross-country aircraft, the Beech King Air. I have not used all the features of FS 2004 yet, so I don't know why I should upgrade. I've flown a few instrument approaches, but I would not say that would translate into a safe real-time experience. I've only crashed once, but that's enough to make me very careful! You don't get second-chances in real-life, and I take flying FS very seriously.
I'm currently engaged in a 50-state hop-n-skip, currently at Honolulu via B777, planning to take a B747 from there to Anchorage, B737 back to Seattle, then work my way east in the Beech King Air. I take the Robinson for local sightseeing, like Mt. St. Helens, and the Hawaiian volcanoes last week.
The controls are excellent, the communications are realistic (better than real-life!), the AP and GPS are fun to play with and take the load off while you sight-see or learn about additional features of the aircraft while flying. I like the optional views of the aircraft, and the replay features.
It's a great program, though I would not really call it a game. If you're looking for realism, it's excellent!
