This is one the best books that explains the basic beliefs of Christianity. C. S. Lewis is an excellent writer; his explanations are clear, reasoned, and easy to follow. He does not get caught up in the differences between denominations or sects, but focuses on Chrisitanity as a whole. I have found it to be a good solid foundation for further discussions on what it means to be Christian. No one I have given it to has failed to gain some insight from it. It is one of the few books which I read once a year as I always glean something new from it.

Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis

I am a long time fan of C.S. Lewis and his master (his words), George MacDonald. I must say that I am a larger fan of both of their masters, Jesus, or Y'shua. Jesus laid into a few simple words immense mystery and simple understanding. Let us understand Mere Christianity is the work of a former Atheist turned Christian apologetic. The Christian and non-Christian alike should read this book so that they may better understand each other. If only the differing beliefs would study one another, en masse.... I find Lewis' prose to be distinctly intelligent and charming. Here for you is a chance to better understand the world in which we share and why many believe Y'shua to be the Creator Incarnate. God Incarnate. The concept shakes one. For anyone interested in theology, I highly recommend this book and along with it, D. James Kennedy's "Why I Believe" and Saint Augustine's "Confessions". The Bible and these 3 make a strong case for a One True Living God with the name of Yaweh.

I enjoyed both the tone and the fireside feel that C.S. Lewis brought out within the text of this book. It read as if Lewis was smoking on his pipe and speaking matter of factly about Christianity. As far as stating a case for Christianity, I didn't feel as if Lewis was approaching the reader from a spiritual hilltop. Through logic, honesty, and his brilliantly simple language Lewis was able to reaffirm and strengthen my approach to Christianity. If you are looking to challenge your faith, and you are seeking to strengthen your approach to Christ - I would most definitely recommend this book. AMDG.

I PURCHASED THIS BOOK BECAUSE OF THE MANY SNIPETS I HAD READ FROM OTHER C.S.LEWIS SOURCES. THE BOOK READS AND TRANSLATES WELL TO TODAY. IT INCLUDES MANY CHALLENGING CHRISTIAN CONCEPTS WHICH WE WOULD DO WELL TO EXAMINE IN OURSELVES. ONE ASPECT OF THIS BOOK I DIDN'T LIKE WAS THE LANGUAGE. ALTHOUGH IT READS WELL, THERE ARE PLACES WHERE THE LANGUAGE IS DATED AND SLOWS THE READERS UNDERSTANDING. THE CONDITION OF THE BOOK IS GOOD, NO SURPRISES.

This is a practical guide to Christianity written from the perspective of a non-believer who becomes a Christian. Although written in the 1940s, the book is surprisingly current. Questions are thorougly answered in a logical step by step fashion. The author states,"Anyone who wants to think about God at all would like to have the clearest and most accurate ideas about him which are available.....Never pin your faith on any human being.... As a living man Christ is here with us now." The author clearly discusses these topics and more. You can read this book in bits and pieces because there is so much to digest in each small chapter. This is excellent reference material and will be a keeper on your library shelf.

C.S. Lewis was endowed with a brilliant and insightful mind. This is a book to be read over and over again. For anyone who wishes to investigate and consider a transcendent world view, I can think of no other book so compelling. Lewis hones in on the essentials of the Christian faith. To the degree to which rationalism is able to take us, the logical implications of our own belief systems are seldom challenged to its core as he does in this book. Well worth the time.

It is a good book for both christians and non-christians. It solved a lot of confusion which may exist for non-christians and I strongly recommend young christians to read this in order to better prepare yourself.

  C.S. Lewis "Mere Christianity"

I purchased this book because our men's group at church was using it as a study guide. I was excited to be able to buy it under the market. Our local religeous book store wanted almost twice the price that i paid including shipping. I paid thru Pay-Pal and received my book in several days, just in time for the next meeting. I could not have had a better experience. All of the purchases i've made thru E-Bay have been good experiences and have recommended E-Bay to my friends and co-workers.
