This is one of the best movies ever. I generally like comedies not in to drama but if ever a movie deserved a sequel this is it.

 INSPIRING MOVIE
Review created: 05/04/07

Ibought this movie after my daughter brought it to my attention. I have terminal leukemia and the movie was very inspiring to me to keep going in the face of many setbacks. I do not like Robert DeNiro though. He is a great actor but I think he is ugly and every character I haVE EVER SEEN HIM PLAY WAS MEAN AND OBNOXIOUS. That is the only negative thing I can say about the movie and it is just my opinion.

 Good movie

This is a good movie although i have seen better. Good subject matter but tends to become a little drawn out and lacks deep drama.

 Men Of Honor

Pros:
A very good story that is based on the life on Carl Brashear, superb acting.

Cons:

Master Chief Sunday: The Navy Diver is not a fighting man, he is a salvage expert. If it is lost underwater, he finds it. If it's sunk, he brings it up. If it's in the way, he moves it. If he's lucky, he will die young, 200 feet beneath the waves, for that is the closest he'll ever get to being a hero. Men Of Honor (2000) Directed by George Tillman Jr. Robert De Niro as Master Chief Leslie W. 'Billy' Sunday Cuba Gooding Jr. as Carl Brashear The Storyline / plot Men Of Honor is a film based on the true story of the life of Carl Brashear. Carl had always been an avid swimmer. He would swim in...

DeNiro and Gooding Go Diving for Greatness
Review created: 05/29/01
by: Grouch -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Gooding and DeNiro give good, thoughtful performances

Cons:
George Tillman directs the movie with a ham fist inside a velvet glove

This Memorial Day weekend, I decided to see a movie that would boil the patriotic blood in my veins one that would make me walk a little taller, a little prouder as I thought of all the sacrifices our men and women have made in the name of freedom, duty and honor. And so, I watched a movie that was as full of heroism as an overstuffed turkey. That movie was Men of Honor. The biopic about Carl Brashear, the first black Navy diver, may not have had as big a budget nor as many overpaid stars as its box office counterpart Pearl Harbor, but it certainly waved just as many flags and squeezed just...

It Will Make Your Heart Soar!

Pros:
Very well acted, good story, very uplifting, good cast.

Cons:
None that I found

Last night I watched the video "Men of Honor," in which Cuba Gooding, Jr gives, what I felt was an outstanding performance . He portrays a master diver in the United States Navy, the first African American to achieve this high-ranking position. His character, Carl Brashear, shows us how many obstacles one can overcome (including racism and a crippling injury), and just how indomitable the human spirit can be. He shows us how one can do all this and achieve his life's dream and in doing so make military history! It is truly a remarkable movie that lifted my spirits! The movie begins with Carl..

 Racism Is Bad
Review created: 04/27/01
by: Sloucho -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
It's not even good that Men of Honor tries to teach a good lesson,

Cons:
. . . since it stumbles so badly in the attempt.

Rant Men of Honor should almost certainly have been made by HBO, since every other HBO film treats the subject of how blacks have gotten a raw deal in America. Unfortunately, HBO isn't the only media-purveyor to have discovered the 'safe haven' of films that purport to be anti-racist. I do not mean to suggest that the racial inequities of American history are insignificant, but I will say that it is just as possible to trivialize a subject by talking about it too much as it is to minimize it by refusing to discuss it at all. Take Lady Diana, for instance. She never did me any personal wrong,..

MEN OF HONOR: Cuba Gooding Jr.'s "ROCKY"
Review created: 08/02/01
by: Ed.Williamson -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Cuba and Robert giving electrifying performances as two sea-dogs in a ferocious dogfight.

Cons:
Maybe a little too flag-waving at times.

Men of Honor is a very fine movie that every American and lots of other people should see if they want to really understand America. It tells the story of Carl Brashears, a mentally and physically tough young black man who came into his own in the U.S. Navy in the 50's and 60's in America and who broke the color line in naval diving. "Naval diving?" I can hear you thinking. "And THAT's supposed to make for an exciting movie? Thanks, but I'll go watch The Fast And The Furious one more time." Well, go ahead if you want to, but you'll miss the story of a lifetime. Carl Brashears' lifetime,...
