I got the movie to complete my Disney Classic collection for my daughter. She loves it - sees it over and over again. After the first time watching it, I can't get past the first 15 minutes without dozing off or walking away. Not one of the best Disney movies out there.

Melody Time (1998, VHS) also DVD

I purchased this on dvd and was disappointed that the tornado scene had been cut from the Pecos Bill segment. I purchased it on vhs, hoping that the dvd had been defective and found that the same tornado scene had been cut. I enjoyed this feature in it's entirety and cannot believe that Disney slaughtered it like this. Both the tape and the dvd will be disposed of.

Average Disney short features, vintage, classic, not the best
Review created: 01/15/08

Pros:
vintage, classic Disney short features

Cons:
old and sometimes boring

The best part of this tape, for me, was seeing Roy Rogers with the real, original Trigger. Roy used to say that he never taught that horse any tricks; the horse taught him. All of the short features in this collection are animated, at least in part. Watching the opening credits, I realized that my parents would recognize most of the names better than I do. Although I do remember hearing the Andrews sisters sing, Dennis Day is nothing more than a familiar name and I never heard of Frances Langford or Ethel Smith. The first short feature is the weakest, in my opinion. Frances Langford sings...

  Another muddled post-war Disney effort
Review created: 12/30/99

Pros:
The "Little Toot" and "Trees" segments

Cons:
The other five segments

The parade of Disney re-releases continues with the 50th anniversary edition of Melody Time, one of the mediocre cartoon / live action anthologies from the 1940s. After 1997 s video release of Fun and Fancy Free, I assumed the Disney vault had been cleansed of its bad post-war compilations, but this embarrassing piece of fluff proved me wrong. Whereas Fun and Fancy Free only had two real segments, Melody Time has seven and only three short ones I d ever watch again. Most of the segments are in the Fantasia vein of letting the music and visuals tell the story rather than relying on dialogue.
