Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler (1998)

I have become very interested in the atrocities of the Holocaust. I feel the need to read as much as I can about it in order to keep the memories of the people that died needlessly alive. Once all of the living survivors have passed, who will tell their stories?

I have not read the book yet and I know it will be a hard "read", but I think it will keep my mind busy.

It was in reasonable condition- there was a tear so it wasn't the best- but I was satisfied with the product.

In the interest of my own awareness of world history, I thought it advisable that I read the writings of the most notorious figure of the 20th century. Fully expecting one long "rant", and decidedly incoherent "spoutings", what I found was relatively clearly delineated, and, at times, self-serving, expressions, opinions, and goals, laid-out in a disarmingly reasoned and reasonable way! (There is even a section on "Syphilis" as a public menace; and, his strict prescription for its being named "Number One" in priority and importance, because of its significant public health dangers. Because of his fanatically bigoted racial fixation and actions, which grew more insane as the war progressed, what I believe that I expected from the book was an ignorant, and thoroughly unschooled treatise, written by someone who barely completed the 2nd grade. Instead, Mein Kampf proves in chilling detail, that everything Hitler envisioned in the 1920's is exactly what he believed, and what he fully intended to implement. In other words, what he spells out in Mein Kampf, is what he set-about to carry-out as Fuehrer! He seems to never have deviated from his pronouncements in his book. Consequently, his crimes should have come as no surprise to anyone! Surprisingly to me, he was a bright, mentally-disciplined man, albeit stark, raving mad, at the end. However, he had A Plan...A Vision, backed-up with, as he terms it, "research", and "study" of people and politics...and, beneath it all, there is the unrelenting undercurrent of an almost rabid nationalistic fervor for the protection of The Fatherland, his bitterness at the ceding and "theft" of German territories, as the result of military actions and various treaties; and the preservation of the culture and well-being of the German people. No power on earthm, save death, itself, could have persuaded Hitler from modifying or rethinking his views. He was the "right" man, at the "right" time for a fragile and dispirited Germany to forge ahead...no matter the consequences.

Who is this Hitler guy? Instead of letting a bunch of geek historians from "Get a Life U" tell us, how about reading what old Hit himself tells us! Let's go old school with some customs offical papa-mau-mau, daily beatings, and even a little Anschluss reverie. That's not enough for you? How 'bout some good old-fashioned orphan-in-Wien, selling water colours, failing entrance exams, and reading Ostara? Let's not forget August 1914 and November 1918, how could we dare! Visit the D.A.P. Join it! Change it! Walk through the Kampfzeit with Wolf! That dog on his lap certainly wasn't the Beer Hall Pooch! In the mood for some Machtergreifung? Well, that's just gonna have to wait. This book was written in 1924-25, babe. This here book gonna get ya groove on!

I have found this book to be rather "wordy". So far, no credible sceintific studies are quoted on race. I do find this to an "insight" into his mind and how He thought. It is good to read a book for yourself and judge it by your understanding rather than have other Reviewers tell you what it means. It is difficult to understand as to what his policies were grounded in except idealogy. I do think He is very clear from his early days as to what his feelings were for Jews and other races. Anyone who has read this would have to understand that, so the question remains "How did He get as far as He did?" This will always remains a question until the end of timee. I bought the book largely because I was curious about just what was in the book. I love reading about history and want to understand "Why" things happen. What better way than to get it from the man himself.

Bought it out of curiosity it was hard to read kind of disturbing to think someone could be so messed up .

I have read some books about hollocoust victims and the hel they ben through. Mein Kampf was written by Hitler himself so why not to read it in order to TRY to understand, why

This book is something my husband has been looking for at a reasonable price. He had been looking for a "used" version at Flea Markets and Antique Stores for quite a while. I was going to buy him a "new" version, but he loves the "hunt".
Finally, after finding it on ebay for a small price, I decided to get it for him. His "nose" has been in it ever since! Thanks ebay!
