I think anybody wanting to play this game should buy it in a double pack. Once you play this one, you'll want to play Max Payne 2: The fall of Max Payne. Drugs, Thugs, Guns, and more await you in this comic story filled with intense 3d action. Some creepy scenes and sound effects in certain parts that will give you shivers. Don't want to give it away, and if you know what I am talking about already, you know that by just reading this, your getting goose bumps.

Great Game, Worth Buying still as of Oct. 10/2006

This game is addicting! It is so much fun, and easy to play and figure out. Also a great story told through comic panels, and some cut scenes. If you the love neo noir genre you would like this game.

A Thrilling PC Game - Tons of Action!
Review created: 05/11/06

If you have not already played Max Payne, or if you have not played it yet see it every time you do a game search on Ebay, then you MUST try this game! Max Payne is such a fun and thrilling game filled with clever obstacles and puzzles as well as tons of flying lead! The game is played in Third Person perspective and told in a modern crime film plotline on the seedy side of the tracks. The gunplay is intense. This was the first game to have "Stop Motion" gameplay where you can slow-mo your shot sequence - and it is awsome! This is another of those games that is now in the bargain bin but is definitely worth more than whatever else is in there.

Here's a description:
Max Payne is a man with nothing to lose in the violent, cold urban night. A fugitive undercover cop framed for murder, and now hunted by cops and the mob. Max is a man with his back against the wall, fighting a battle he cannot hope to win. Prepare for a new breed of deep action game. Prepare for pain...

Developed by Remedy Entertainment and produced by 3D Realms, Max Payne is a relentless story-driven game about a man on the edge, fighting for his justice while uncovering plot-twists and twisted thugs in the gritty bowels of New York during the century's worst blizzard.

Max Payne is an original third-person 3D game based on the MAX-FX engine, and uses photo-digitized textures and radiosity lighting, resulting in one of the most realistic looking games ever seen on the PC.

 Max Payne - Matrix-like crime-fighting
Review created: 08/01/01

Pros:
Awesome new graphics engine, photo-textured, bullet damage, matrix effect.

Cons:
crappy ending, annoying dream sequences, tedious enemies, and stupid difficulty setting.

Max Payne is so-far the most innovative 3d-shooter yet. Developed by Remedy and released by God Games and 3d Realms, this game pushes the limits in today s standard 3d-shooter. It features crystal sharp graphics, movie like in-game cinematics, and some pretty cool gameplay. Here s the breakdown. Pros 1) The bad guys have identifiable photo-mapped faces. The shock value of seeing realistic, photo-mapped characters, and not just random art-drawn faces, but actual programmers and designers of the game, was just amazing. Why? Because I m no longer fighting an aimless horde of look-alikes, Men in..

Pros:
Non-stop action. Well executed Bullet Time gameplay. Superb voice acting.

Cons:
Pretty short and no multiplayer.

Ok, I admit it. I though Max Payne would be a bust. In fact, I was so certain of it that I prophesied Max Payne would be the Daikatana of 2001. Humbled, I now shamefacedly struggle to remove my foot from my mouth. In my defense, the similarities do exist. Both games had extremely long development cycles. Both games were hyped from their very inception. Daikatana was the flagship product of brash new developer Ion Storm, led by John Romero of id Software fame. Max Payne was the jewel of impetuous publisher G.O.D., led by Mike Wilson, also of id Software fame. Both games promised to bring new...

Max Payne: This is How To Deliver After 4 Years Of Waiting.
Review created: 08/01/01
by: Alkaiser -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Bullet time is pretty nifty.

Cons:
Really odd "hits", clipping is almost nonexistant.

Max Payne. I'd almost forgotten how long ago this game had been talked about before it finally got over its stage fright and decided to get itself out onto shelves. All of the initial signs on this game had it earmarked to be another Daikatana. And, for the first time in a long time... The company delivered. Max Payne isn't anything spectacular. It's basically going to be pretty much like nearly every other 3D person-type shooter. But it's got a couple nice quirks that show that the guys were at lesat thinking a little off kilter so they didn't give the same product you could find 2 or 3...

I could swear Max Payne is Neo from the Matrix at weekends....

Pros:
Bullet time. Dark, violent gameworld & gameplay. Brilliant graphics. Superior sound. Replay value.

Cons:
Too bloody hard. Lifespan. AI (at times). Not subtle.

Max Payne is the gaming version of a John Woo film. Or possibly The Matrix ie. An ultra cool, slick, and stylish game that oozes dark humour and class. Developed by Remedy, Max Payne hit the PC in 2001, boasting several groundbreaking features like Bullet time gameplay and ultra realistic body damage and graphics, not to mention self adjusting gameplay. The game arrived under a huge cloud of hype being in development for 5 or 6 years, and was a greatly anticipated game. Does it live up to the hype though? Read on to find out What s it all about then? You assume the role of, surprisingly, Max..

A Payne to play at times.

Pros:
Bullet Time

Easy to Play with Mouse & Keyboard

Cons:
No FMV's

Slow Story

Story's Too Long

Little Replay

Take your noir genre and add in bullet time. That s how one can best describe Max Payne. The game is a beauty in motion, but suffers in other areas. First off, Max Payne is about a police officer living the American dream until he comes home to find his family murdered. Although a common clich , the brutality behind Max really brings out the true meaning of his suffering. Albeit confusing at first, the game pits Max against Lupino (the crime boss whose new drug is responsible for the junkies that killed his family). As Max goes after his mark with a vengeance, he has many chances to beat...
