Mass Effect(ed my life)

Mass Effect is a futuristic third person RPG. That translates to - an over the shoulder point of view of the game. RPGs (or role playing games) center around character customization, improving your character, and progressing through the game. Mass Effect isn't like other RPG's in that it is completely open ended with multiple outcomes to the end of the game, depending on the decision you make, but we'll come back to decision making. Open ended games, like Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, are games were you are left alone to do anything you want, and aren't forced to do anything. You cant focus on the main storyline, which many people will because it is one of the best video game story lines in my opinion, or you can explore the galaxy and discover your own adventure. One of the other big attractions of this game is the depth of the dialogue, and making decisions that affect the gameplay. Will you allow the mercenary leader walk away clean, or destroy him and his entire crew? It's your call.
Now onto what everyone's been waiting for, COMBAT! There are two main ways of dealing damage, with weapons, or with abilities, I'll deal with weapons first. You start out the game with four weapons, and as your progress you gain better upgraded versions from combat, or loot. The weapons are the pistol, with is useful at almost any range, the assault rifle, which is useful at medium to short ranges, the shotgun which is useful for close range, and the sniper rifle which is for (you guessed it) long range. In Mass Effect, they have removed reloading as part of the game. Instead, your weapons overheat if they are being shot too quickly (don't worry there's a big red bar to show you the heat that has been accumulated). If your weapon overheats you must wait for the bar to return to zero before you may resume firing.
Now onto abilities. Abilities fall into three different categories, Bionic, Tech, and Weapons. Bionic abilities have the power to manipulate the world around them with the power of the mind (and the robotic implants in the character) to deal massive damage to the enemy. Tech abilities are used to disable enemies and heal allies. Weapon abilities are weapon specific abilities that you acquire as you train with your weapons. Pistols, shotguns, and assault rifles all have the same basic ability, which is increased heat absorption, increased firing rate, and increased accuracy for a short time. The sniper, however, has assassination, which increases damage and accuracy, but only for the next shot, making it useful to pick off the tougher enemies from afar.
NOw onto character customization. Your character can be any of the following seven classes, Soldier (pure combat), Engineer (pure tech), adept (pure biotic), Infiltrator (combat/tech), Vanguard (biotic/combat), and the Sentinel (biotic/tech).
Soldier-Is the only class that can train in heavy armor/all four weapons, but starts with no tech/biotic abilities
Engineer-Can only use pistols but the only class with access to all tech abilities.
Adept-Can only use pistols but the only class with access to all biotic abilities.
Infiltrator-Uses pistols and snipers, can train to use medium armor, and limited tech. and the only class other than soldiers that can train in sniper rifles.
Vanguard-Uses pistols and/or shotguns along with limited biotic abilities, and can train to use medium armor.
Sentinel-The best of both worlds as far as tech and biotics are concerned, however, they cannot train in any weapons.
