Martha Stewart's Homekeeping Handbook by Martha Stewart (2006)

You can't go wrong with Martha Stewart when it comes to solid details and information on all aspects of keeping a house. I enjoyed this book, as the photos are clear and the material is well researched. From cleaning to care of floors and furniture, this book covers it all (would you expect less from Martha Stewart?)
My only quibble is that this book is basically in black and white (even the photos)unlike so many of Martha's other books. I think this detracts from the aesthetic appeal of the book. Perhaps budgetary constraints were responsible for the decision and the book IS lengthy so color could have been expensive. Still, I'd prefer a book that contains color on nearly every page. This book does not.

If you love Martha Stewart then you will love this book. It has it all, from how to clean to take care of all major appliances and much much much more. There is so much information that it can almost be overwhelming. When I need to get something done around my house I always refer to this book to make sure I am getting it as clean as possible or taking care it the right way. You will not be disappointed.

What can I say! This book has everything you could possibly ever need to know about the art of homekeeping. It is a 744 page hardcover book that should be a must for everyone who maintains a home no matter if that home is a tiny apartment or large house. The book takes you through every room in your home and explains in great detail how to maintain that space from dusting to maintenance. EVERYTHING is discussed from plumbing to electricity to pest control to emergency preparedness, even living with your pet. There is even a chapter that talks about moving. The book is brilliantly outlined and illustrated. What makes this book really special for Martha Stewart lovers is the fact that each new chapter begins with Martha discussing that room and reminiscing about life in her different homes over the years. There are many photographs throughout the book showing rooms in her homes in Bedford, Skylands, Lily Pond Lane, East Hampton, and of course the beloved Turkey Hill. This book would make an excellent wedding gift for any new bride but would be welcomed for any gift giving occasion for any female or male. I do not know when I have seen a book that I have been as impressed with other than Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook. That book is also a jewel. The one thing that makes my Homekeeping Handbook really special to me is the fact that the one I purchased was autographed by Martha and included a photograph of her signing the book at a local department store. A real cherished book!!!

A new daughter-in-law requested it. She will be using it to creat a home for my son who is a military officer.

The only con would be the hefty size of the book. It is a little heavy for in-bed late night reading. Maybe if the book could have been divided into 2 books, it would have been better.

I bought this book as a Christmas present for my mother and she loves it. She said it is full of all kinds of useful information and household tips. I have not looked at it myself but if she liked it, it must be pretty good because she is hard to please.

This book is a great reference volume to have around the house. Full of alot of down-to-earth info. It is like the Joy of Cooking for the house.

The price was right and it was a wonderful christmas gift for someone who doesn't know how to keep care of a household.

My daughter bought a house recently & wanted this book-she is a great researcher of everything so I knew it must be something good. I bought it on half.com because the price was the best I could find. My daughter says it is wonderful. Martha gives you very basic ideas that we may overlook because they are so simple.

I just bought my first home, so I thought this would be a good reference. And that's what this is, a reference book. This book does not have color pictures or laid out like a magazine. This book offers extremely detailed information about how to clean just about everything. However, this book offers much more than that. I have found it very helpful in setting up and maintaining my first home.

I bought this book because even someone my age can learn new things about doing things myself and getting more organized. Because the book is so full of information it may take me awhile to get through everything anytime soon. However, it has a great table of contents and index which already saves time. I would recommend this book to people of all ages and to men and women. It would make a great gift for any occassion.

Truly and honestly, I found this book amazing. Would have liked more "color" but other than that I cannot say one bad remark about it. I have referred to it several times in the few short months I have had it.

I wanted to buy it because it goes into detail on how to take care of everything in your house and keep it all in order. The detail is fantastic! It really helps with all the wonderful tips and ideas.

Martha Stewart's Housekeeping Handbook is an excellent resource guide to just about everything for your home. The majority of the pages are packed with useful information that readers from all walks of life can implement into their own lives.
It covers the basics of chemical compounds in your average household cleaners and provides recipes to make your own effective cleaners that are less harmful to you and your family.
She covers everything from basic household chores, how often to do what (and how to) to household finances and cost saving tips.
I find this book to be very resourceful. Not only am I reading it from front to back, I have referenced this book at least a dozen times since I have received it.
I highly recomend it to people my age (25), as this is not common knowledge for our age and generation anymore. I recomend it to anyone looking for better methods for taking care of the home.
