Golf + RPG = Awesome!

A golf game with RPG elements? What's going on? An amazing game, that's what! If you like golf games at all, you love this one. The controls strike a beautiful balance between easy to pick up and challenging to master, the game has loads of stuff to do in it, and the graphics are a pleasure to look at. Best of all, at it's core this games has probably the best 2D golf engine I've ever seen. It creates the feel of a 3D golf course convincingly enough that it's easy to forget that this is a 16-bit game. As for the RPG part? It works well, and makes the one player mode a bit more interesting and involving than the typical golf handheld, but don't expect an epic and engaging story-line. I only have two minor critiques of this game: Firstly, there's a bit of a learning curve issue. It's a little easy until the end, at which point it gets very hard. The other is that, while I'd never think I'd say this, there's almost too much stuff to unlock. Half of me is like "Oh man! I only have half the characters unlocked: I need to keep it up!" and the other half is "Ohhh GOD! How many times do I have hit this ball around the grass??" It is just a golf game, after all. I think its designers expected the player to get more into golf games than is humanly possible for the average person. But when my mind goes numb from birdies, skins games, and backspin, I just set the game aside for a few weeks, so I can rediscover how fun it is again later.
