I have just finished the first in this series. Good story, good dialogue, and great insight into the characters. I recommend this for any military sci-fi fans.

Pros: Spoiled brat is forced to mature. Brave men and women struggling through dangerous territory. Etc.
Cons: Only part of a larger story. Somehow it doesn't feel like great literature.
This is not a story about the USMC. However, it is a story about what are arguably the spiritual heirs to much of their proud Marine tradition, many centuries hence. Pros: A good read from two good authors
Cons: You'll have to like military sci-fi
I am a huge fan of Weber s Honor Harrington series, read them all and eagerly await the next. It looks like this volume is the start of a new series, there is already a second volume available in paperback which I enjoyed and a third in hardback. I wholeheartedly approve. This book is well written, with an interesting world and well developed characters. It is a mix of a military tale with a travel tale, a group of human soldiers traveling across a foreign and barely known world with the odd battle along the way. This series is co-written by John Ringo, an author with whom I am unfamiliar but.
