Man on Fire (2004, DVD)

I went into this movie with no expectations other than it has Denzel Washington as the lead actor (playing Creasy) and, for that reason, it has to be at least decent, right? Other than Denzel's role - I knew nothing about the film. What resulted blew my mind - "Man on Fire" is a brilliant mix of thriller, drama, and action... I had a such a good time with the movie that I was upset when it ended. I was also upset that its theater presence was short lived and I didn't get a chance to see it on a large screen (but I guess my 50" tube will do!).

Denzel plays Creasy - a bodyguard assigned to protect the daughter (played by Dakota Fanning) of an elite American family living in Mexico. Denzel does so perfectly - evoking similarities to "Training Day". Along the way, Denzel and Dakota become close friends and, as he becomes a father figure to her, he also learns about himself and his weakness - when Dakota is kidnapped by bandits seeking ransom, Denzel becomes turns to vigilante seeking safety for the one person he loves.

What's so surprising about this film is the intellect with which it was written and directed. This movie could have easily been turned into a Bond-like movie - big action, big thrills. But while it combines action and thrills, the heart of the movie is in the acting, screenplay and cinematography. The movie is brilliantly put together and pleasure to watch. Visually it is stunningly put together.

While this movie isn't Oscar-worthy, its very well put together and visually stunning. Director Tony Scott does a fine job merging action with artistry and the result is enjoyable to watch.

Great action movie. I had this and lost it in a divorce. Saw it on TV the other evening. Didn't do it justice. Not for the kiddies.

Very interesting and exciting movie. the young actress is adorable and Denzel is stoic as always. Very nice way to spend a couple of hours.

i decided to buy it becuz my girl loves this movie and i do too but it is a great movie i recomend it to all the movie people since im not a movie person, and i like this movie i think its grat and we totaly love it thanks

This is a great action filled movei yet still heart breaking. I can watch this movie over and over again. I loved it. I highly recomend it to anyone.

Full of action. I cried at the end.

I watched this movie on Spike about a week ago, they played it as a movie of the week type thing. During each commercial they would show some behind the scenes type of stuff. They interviewed the director and he explained how this is a true story based on actual events. He also told a story about how him, another member of the cast/crew, and his bodyguard were surrounded and assualted when they left the area where they were shooting the movie, by 20 men who were armed with guns. He said that Mexico City is a very poor place, where Kidnappings are the second most occuring crime. I found this movie to be very informative, accurate, and very entertaining (thanks to Denzel). I think without Denzel's excellent acting in this movie, it might have been a flop. While it is a great story, with good action scenese, and an even better behind the scenes storyline, if your lucky enough to see it, it is Denzel Washington that carries this movie on his back and does an excellent job at doing so.

One of Denzel's best movies. Very true to real life, especially if you've ever travel in Latin America. It gives you a real insight into the corruption and the mindset of many of the government officlas in the third world. Denzel is spectacular as usual, and the other actors are very well cast. The special effects are done right and nothing is over the top. The scene with the RPG is done to perfection. It is just the right mix of drama, and action with a very intricate plot line to boot. Great Film!

It shows that anyone can pull themselves out of the mire they are in, and be the person they know they should and can be. But it takes the skills of the actors and directors to get that message across with the strength that this film does, in a very remarkable way.

I love the story some of the camra work can make you not watch for a min. but over all a great movie.

This is a great action, dramatic, and thrilling film and has the perfect title. I am a Denzel fan and I enjoy Dakota because she is the element that brought Denzel back to life. I believe the dead (Denzel's "burnout" caused him to loose hope in himself and not care for anyone) had to be restored. Anytime you spend time with anyone regardless how disconnected you may feel from the world, there is always something that compels you reach beyond your pity party and realize you are the one that makes a difference. And money may have been the motivator but compassion was the prevailing factor. That is the ultimate sacrifice!

This movie manages to touch the tender and the vigilante/violent side without mercy. Dakota Fanning is impossible not to like in this movie, and Denzel...well, does that really need to be said?

My husband absolutely loves this movie and watches is a lot. I think it has a pretty good plot, but isn't worth watching more than maybe twice...
Oh, and Dakota Fanning is great in this movie

Denzel Washington is an excellent actor and it really shows in this movie..You can see the sensitive side as well as the tough guy.

Dakota Fanning..Bless her heart this young lady is an EXCELLENT actress and she gives her all in this movie.

Loved the movie...happened to catch the last half of it on TV and wanted to see what all of it. I'm a big fan of Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning. She's a great actress for being such a young child. I absolutely loved this movie.....

If you enjoy intense action and like Denzel Washington this is the movie for you. This is without question my favorite Denzel movie, the only thing I can put in the same league is training day.
