Truth be told, I'm an 80s kid and until Mamma Mia came to my city, part of the US Tour, I had never really heard of ABBA ::gasp:: After seeing the performance there were a couple songs that I had recognized - I just didn't know they were ABBA songs.
After the musical I bought the soundtrack in the lobby - ripped it out of the packaging, ran to my car and popped it in the CD player. The songs on the CD are in order as it is performed on stage - and even without seeing it live you can still follow the basis of the storyline from this soundtrack and before you know it you will be shaking your hips, nodding your head and trying to dance like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever.
Some of my favorite songs on this CD include: > Honey, Honey > Thank You For the Music > Mamma Mia > Dancing Queen > The Name of the Game > Voulez-Vous > Under Attack > S.O.S. > Does Your Mother Know > Our Last Summer Eh... I just love the entire thing!
If you like ABBA - musicals - or the 70s you are going to LOVE this soundtrack and if you are like me - this CD will have you going to your parents house and searching in the attic pulling out the platform shoes and leisure suits!!
I decided to buy Mamma Mia CD because first I saw this musical in Broadway and I absolutly love it, so I buy this cd to listen once again every songs at home. Also I'm fan of group Abba.
I bought this CD for my mother after we saw the show together. She loves it and listens to it everyday in her car. I've listened to it when I'm in her car with her and it sounds great. It makes you want to go see the show again!
I saw this play in Nashville TN in June and knew I wanted to get the musical score. I am delighted with the original cast recording. The one thing I would have changed about the recording is on a few songs the music overpowers the singing. I believe this is because the CD was done live during a performance, not is a sound studio.
Other than this minor "flaw" I love the CD because it reminds me of the energy and flow of the play. I see the actions as I hear the music. Plus now I can sing along with the songs which I could only "think along" with during the play.
I highly recommend this CD if you want to revisit your memories from watching the play. I would give this as a gift to someone I knew saw the play. If you didn't see the play they are still good songs, I just think those who saw the play will enjoy the CD better.
After seeing the show in Vegas I had to have the soundtrack. It is great! The music is straight from the show and has all the classic ABBA songs I grew up with.
Having seen the production and reliving it with this recording I can say without a doubt the project was accurately captured in this recording. MAking it a really fun listen!
The reason I bought this CD is we had just come back from seeing Mama Mia and I fell in love with the music all over again. I love popping it into the cd player in our car and singing as loud as I can (with the windows closed). When I bought it I didnt know it was the English cast, but who cares! I love it and if you are an Abba fan, or even if your not you will enjoy hearing these songs. A real blast from the past.
I BOUGHT THIS ITEM AS A GIFT TO MY HUSBAND THAT TOOK ME TO VAGAS A COUPLE MONTHS AGO. HE DID NOT WANT TO WATCH MAMMA MIA BUT I HAD ALREADY PURCHASED THE TICKETS TO THE SHOW. WELL, HE ENDED UP ENJOYING IT AS I DID, MAYBE EVEN MORE. I AM SURE HE WILL LOVE IT WHEN IT IS OPENED AT CHRISTMAS, AND BRING BACK SOME WONDERFUL MEMORIES.
After seeing the live show, we couldn't get the songs out of our heads and had to have a copy!!! Great sound track!! If you've seen the show, you HAVE to have this!!
