Classic Kevin Smith Movie. For fans of him or anyone that grew up in the garden state, this is a winner.

Want to laugh? Buy this dvd. it's sophomoric but good. The first starring role of the now famous Jason Lee (My name is Earl). If you've seen any of Kevin Smith's Films, this is one of the better ones.

  Mallrats: Merely an Upscale Clerks
Review created: 07/23/04
by: updateghost-- a member of Epinions and Top Reviewer in Movies

Pros:
The laughs; improvements over Clerks.

Cons:
The improvements aren't much...

Mallrats is one of those movies that only succeeds because it's characters are peculiar and it's babes are hot. Seriously, this movie has some attractive women. But really, if you look outside of the box, it's just an awful movie, suffering from the Clerks syndrome of being badly written, acted and directed, but still bringing a smile to your face in the end. It follows of the story of T.S. (Jeremy London) and Brodie Bruce (Jason Lee), two best friends who have been dumped by their girlfriends on the same day. To compensate for their misery, one which Brodie doesn't admit to, the two decide...

  A Victim of Inflated Expectations
Review created: 02/26/06
by: maddogdenny -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Good, dumb, funny entertainment.

Cons:
It's funny, but not hilarious, Jeremy London.

Having as successful a directorial debut as Clerks proved to be a double edged sword for Kevin Smith. On one hand, Clerks showed that with a very small amount of money, limited skills behind the camera, and some witty dialogue, you can have a hit movie. Unfortunately, it set a standard for Smith that everyone expected him to follow for all of his movies. I'm going to say that Mallrats is not my favorite Kevin Smith movie by any means; in fact, it's probably my least favorite (I haven't seen Jersey Girl yet, so that may change), but it does have its own charm about it. The story begins with...

A Sophomore film that's not Sophomoric (The Underappreciated Films Write-Off)
Review created: 07/17/01
by: JuiceJW -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Its "reported" to be so bad, that nothing can come but good

Cons:
No movie is without fault

BUCKLE UP Mallrats, released 1995 by Universal. Written and Directed by Kevin Smith. DOMESTIC GROSS: 2.122 million. Blasted by nearly every critical mind in the existence of our Universe. "There is such a thing as the "sophomore jinx" for film makers. Recently, it has hit the likes of Allison Anders, Robert Rodriguez, and now Kevin Smith" - James Berardinelli "I don't know what Smith was thinking when this project came together, but let's just hope this is just the proverbial sophomore slump. Kev, I know you can do better than this." - Christopher Null "Most of this sidetracking, though,...

"How Else Am I Supposed to Get the Gerbil Out?"
Review created: 05/27/02
by: MattA75 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Jason Lee, fast paced, and pretty funny

Cons:
a weak plot and the usual overuse of "d*ck and fart jokes"

I was talking to a good Epinions friend of mine last week, and I mentioned to this friend how bad my movie reviews were. She assured me that my movie reviews were fine. Of course, I doubt that, but nonetheless, this is the first in a long series of movie reviews I'll be doing throughout the summer on some of my all time favorite movies. Please note that these certainly aren't the best films of all time (um, duh), but they make me laugh and I've always loved them from the first viewing. Mallrats is director Kevin Smith's second film, and also, his biggest bomb. After the amazing indie success..

The tenth anniversary edition of Jason Lee's MALLRATS, starring Ben Affleck! (and Silent Bob)
Review created: 09/21/05

Pros:
The DVD is a wealth of great features and the film is alright.

Cons:
It's still the most flawed and least interesting of Kevin Smith's flicks.

This has seriously got to stop, people. It's an insult to a hard-working consumer like me, who loves watching movies on DVD and loves to write about movies he saw on DVD. I'm talking about Universal Home Entertainment's never-ending double-dipping blow-out, which has become such a nuisance that I feel like skeet shooting some shiny plastic just to let off steam. For the past few years, nearly all of the movies Universal have already released on DVD have been trotted out for recent "upgrades" that have been met with mixed results. For instance, there are DVDs that improve upon what was seen in.
