  Kevin Smith Movie

Anyone who knows Kevin Smith also knows Jay and Silent Bob (who are in this movie). A very funny movie about a guy whos girlfriend breaks up with him and what he will do to get her back. Most of the movie is inside of a mall (hint to the title). The whole movie keeps you laughing and you learn something about comic books too. The cast is great and includes Kevin Smith, Jason Lee, and Ben Affleck. I give this movie two thumbs up!

Son Of Jorel, Neal Before Zod - Snootchie Bootchies!!!

When a couple of well-meaning slackers, T.S. (Jeremy London) and Brodie (Jason Lee), lose their girlfriends, they set about trying to reclaim their pride (and their ladies) in the most obvious of places - the mall. Once there, the pair push the limits of decency and mall etiquette, encountering an array of mall denizens, including Jay and Silent Bob from CLERKS and legendary comic book creator Stan Lee. A surprising number of misadventures ensue, bringing the boys the possibility of regaining their lady loves.

I purchased this dvd to complete my collection of Kevin Smith films. I had not seen it and was curious to see if the unfavorable reviews were deserved. As Kevin Smith films go, this one is a little weak. The plot is a little too silly to be taken seriously, but, Jay and Silent Bob are always worth the price of admission. Stan Lee's cameo is fun to watch. While Mallrats is not in the same league as Dogma or Chasing Amy, It has its moments and the little inside jokes make sense if you own the other buddy films. Recommended for Kevin Smith fans and anyone wanting a 90 minute diversion from reality.

Like: zany jokes, characters, and plot.
Love: random nudity
Dislike: the gayness of the love store entwined in the plot.

Love the older kevin Smith flicks. Mallrats is a must have for all Smith fans...not too commercialized like his later films This one is surpassed only by the original Clerks. Yes, I'm a purist and am Chasing Randall ;-)

After I saw Clerks II (what a Riot!!) friends told me to see Clerks I and Mallrats I could not find them at our local Walmart so managed to get them both (CHEAP) on Ebay. MallRats reminded me a little of ClerksII/Dogma. I thought the movie was pretty funny for a low budget flick, not something to watch with your kids/parents (for us 40 somethings).

  Mallrats a winner
Review created: 04/07/07

If you are a Kevin Smith fan, then you will want to put Mallrats into your collection. I rated it good, because he did not include all of the characters from Clerks. The actors and characters that did make it in did do a good job in their parts.
There are some nice cameo appearances and our hood rat duo; Jay & Silent Bob our back in action. Jay & Silent Bob fans will not be disappointed, since they get a lot of camera time.
Clerks fans be warned, Dante and my favorite Randall, did not make it into this one. Actor Brian O’halloran (Dante) does make an appearance as Suitor #3 on the game show, but he isn’t playing Dante. You can tell that Jason Lee (Brodie Bruce) was the one that got Randall’s lines.
All in all it’s a good movie and is a cult classic. If you are a Kevin Smith fan, then you do need this one in your collection.
On a side note, make sure you pick up Clerks II. It is excellent.

Mallrats is a fun movie to watch with friends and talk about times back in the day. This collectors editin has extra footage and commentaries that captures the early careers of many popular actors. I really like to watch the parts with Kevin Smith at Silent Bob.

Must have for the View Askew fan

Almost as fun as watching this movie is to listen to the audio commentary track with Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Jason Lee, Ben Affleck, and others. While it's great to listen to them critique their own film, it's fun to hear them joke and chat with each other. If you want a deeper appreciation for the Viewaskewniverse, listen to that extra audio!

I bought this movie for my daughter for Christmas. This is one of her favorite movies and it is part of a series. The humor may be a little dry for some, but once you watch all the movies that are a part of it, it will begin to make sense. I also purchased, clerks, clerks 2, dogma, chasing amy and jay and silent bob strike back to complete teh series for her.

  Another Great Kevin Smith Movie

I bought this movie because I'm a good fan of Kevin Smith's other work, I had already seen the movie and knew it was good, and the mall that it was shot in is a mall I actually used to go to quite a bit. Like the movie title hints at, a vast major of it takes place in a mall. It stars some famous actors like Ben Afflec, Stan Lee, former pro skateboarder and founder of Stereo Skateboards, Jason Lee, and of course Kevin Smith "Silent Bob" and Jason Mewes "Jay", as well as a few others people may recognize when they see them. THe plot is simple; a couple guys get dumped by their girlfriends and decide to just go hang out at the mall. While at the mall, they notice that there is a dating game show being hosted, in which they see they can try to get their girlfriends back. For a little while of the movie, they try to sceme up a way that they can be on the dating show themselves. This movie is a hilarious movie, especially if you are a fan of Kevin Smith and his characters "Jay & Silent Bob", because I think that Mallrats has one of the best "Jay & Silent Bob" performances to date. I definately recommend this movie for a BUY if you are a fan of Kevin Smith, but if your not, I still would say check it out some time; rent it, borrow it from a friend, but watch it at least once.

This movie is great! At least that is what I might have said about it, had I ever gotten it. But here I am, writting a review on a movie I never recieved and ebay nows it because I filed a claim with them. But hey, none of that matters to them because they make their money whether I get screwed over or not. Safe and secure online auctions, heh thats laughable.

  Mallrats: Merely an Upscale Clerks
Review created: 07/23/04
by: updateghost-- a member of Epinions and Top Reviewer in Movies

Pros:
The laughs; improvements over Clerks.

Cons:
The improvements aren't much...

Mallrats is one of those movies that only succeeds because it's characters are peculiar and it's babes are hot. Seriously, this movie has some attractive women. But really, if you look outside of the box, it's just an awful movie, suffering from the Clerks syndrome of being badly written, acted and directed, but still bringing a smile to your face in the end. It follows of the story of T.S. (Jeremy London) and Brodie Bruce (Jason Lee), two best friends who have been dumped by their girlfriends on the same day. To compensate for their misery, one which Brodie doesn't admit to, the two decide...

  A Victim of Inflated Expectations
Review created: 02/26/06
by: maddogdenny -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Good, dumb, funny entertainment.

Cons:
It's funny, but not hilarious, Jeremy London.

Having as successful a directorial debut as Clerks proved to be a double edged sword for Kevin Smith. On one hand, Clerks showed that with a very small amount of money, limited skills behind the camera, and some witty dialogue, you can have a hit movie. Unfortunately, it set a standard for Smith that everyone expected him to follow for all of his movies. I'm going to say that Mallrats is not my favorite Kevin Smith movie by any means; in fact, it's probably my least favorite (I haven't seen Jersey Girl yet, so that may change), but it does have its own charm about it. The story begins with...

A Sophomore film that's not Sophomoric (The Underappreciated Films Write-Off)
Review created: 07/17/01
by: JuiceJW -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Its "reported" to be so bad, that nothing can come but good

Cons:
No movie is without fault

BUCKLE UP Mallrats, released 1995 by Universal. Written and Directed by Kevin Smith. DOMESTIC GROSS: 2.122 million. Blasted by nearly every critical mind in the existence of our Universe. "There is such a thing as the "sophomore jinx" for film makers. Recently, it has hit the likes of Allison Anders, Robert Rodriguez, and now Kevin Smith" - James Berardinelli "I don't know what Smith was thinking when this project came together, but let's just hope this is just the proverbial sophomore slump. Kev, I know you can do better than this." - Christopher Null "Most of this sidetracking, though,...

"How Else Am I Supposed to Get the Gerbil Out?"
Review created: 05/27/02
by: MattA75 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Jason Lee, fast paced, and pretty funny

Cons:
a weak plot and the usual overuse of "d*ck and fart jokes"

I was talking to a good Epinions friend of mine last week, and I mentioned to this friend how bad my movie reviews were. She assured me that my movie reviews were fine. Of course, I doubt that, but nonetheless, this is the first in a long series of movie reviews I'll be doing throughout the summer on some of my all time favorite movies. Please note that these certainly aren't the best films of all time (um, duh), but they make me laugh and I've always loved them from the first viewing. Mallrats is director Kevin Smith's second film, and also, his biggest bomb. After the amazing indie success..

The tenth anniversary edition of Jason Lee's MALLRATS, starring Ben Affleck! (and Silent Bob)
Review created: 09/21/05
by: deadmilkboy -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
The DVD is a wealth of great features and the film is alright.

Cons:
It's still the most flawed and least interesting of Kevin Smith's flicks.

This has seriously got to stop, people. It's an insult to a hard-working consumer like me, who loves watching movies on DVD and loves to write about movies he saw on DVD. I'm talking about Universal Home Entertainment's never-ending double-dipping blow-out, which has become such a nuisance that I feel like skeet shooting some shiny plastic just to let off steam. For the past few years, nearly all of the movies Universal have already released on DVD have been trotted out for recent "upgrades" that have been met with mixed results. For instance, there are DVDs that improve upon what was seen in.
