I bought this DVD because I have the 4 part VHS Macross Plus Series and I wanted a more modern DVD version of this series. The movie has a lot of parts that the series doesn't and vice versa. Having both fills in alot of gaps. Also having the option of listening in Japanese and having English subtitles makes alot of the plot more coherent and understandable as well as it reveals things that the dubbed VHS's that I have don't reveal.

Macross Plus - a stunning addition to the Macross saga

Pros:
A classic OAV, with action and romance and amazing music

Cons:
It's too darn short!

In the late seventies and early eighties, when you were a kid - odds are that you watched Saturday morning cartoons or cartoons after school. If you were anything like me, you'd race home, plotting out the quickest route through Old Man Smither's hedge (and around his dog), over the backyard fence and right up to the couch (perhaps after grabbing some Kool-Aid from the fridge as you went). After your 13 channel, black and white tube monstrosity warmed up (plus a quick adjustment to the rabbit ears), you were set for the animation to wash over you and whisk you away to some far off land. Odds..

Pros:
Great story, wicked animation, one of the best animes out there.

Cons:
Ending could've been a wee bit better(That's just what I think)

It's official, any Anime with the word Macross in the name will most likely be based on music... O.k. you know about Macross 7 right? Well you won't necessarily be seeing giant sub-woofers on the shoulders of the mechs, but you can bet that this'll be another music/meccha anime. If you don't already know, the Macross series are meccha/sci-fi genres. This one is a change from the typical meccha, now don't get me wrong, the characters still deal with issues, but it's not one civilization against another, it's more of a drama... Let's start off with a fews details on the story...Wow, I mean...

Pros:
One of the best Anime films I've had the pleasure of viewing<BR/>

Cons:
The story needs a little tweaking but other wise

Normally, I'm a video game player and this is the first time I've written a movie review in quite a while. I must say at first my anime viewing is about as limited as it gets. After watching some Japanese Anime on sci fi channel and then buying a few comics and some videos I wasn't prepared for it all. Mind blowing art work that well rivals that of a hollywood action movie. This is a bonus for people who love mech films because it's showing itself to be an automatic classic. Although, I favor Akria and vampire hunter D I couldn't help but be held in awe watching this. However, despite all of..

  Better than Top Gun...
Review created: 08/02/00

Pros:
Great animation, great story, a classic

Cons:
The English voice dubbing

"Macross Plus" appears to be the "Top Gun" of anime, in that it the movie focuses on pilots of high speed jets in love while coming to grips with their past and proving themselves as the best pilot. Unlike "Top Gun," "Macross Plus" also has a sci-fi story and setting, which only adds to an already excellent plot line. There is a lot of action involved, making for a great movie I'd recommend to anyone. Set in the Robotech Universe, "Macross Plus" begins on the planet of Eden, where competing designs for a new fighter/mecha are being tested. The rival pilots are Isamu and Guld, a human and...

  Macross PLUS!
Review created: 07/14/00
by: Newtype2001 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Mecha Designs, Music, Plot

Cons:
Missing Character Development from 0AV

Macross Plus, a story from the famous Macross continuum of Kawamori, will guarantee to thrill sci-fi and mecha anime enthusiasts alike! The story features two test pilots fighting for the woman they both love. The plot is very well woven, and keeps your attention, and towards the end, puts you on the edge of your seat. However, if one wants the full impact and background of the story, I would recommend viewing the 4-part Original Animation on Video (OAV) series of the same name. The character designs are realistic, believable, and very alluring, while the mecha designs are mind-boggling! The..
