  LoveSexy, by Prince

Pros:
Everything

Cons:
Nothing

My moment of clarity came in 1990. No, I rarely drink and this had nothing to do with alcohol. I'd gone out one day hoping to buy a new Prince tape. I don't know if I had a particular one in mind that day, but I came home with LOVESEXY. I listened to it and halfway through my second trip around the album, there it was. I can't put into words what it was, but I know it was beautiful. "Rain is wet And sugar is sweet Clap your hands And stomp your feet Everybody Everybody knows When Love calls You gotta go" 1988's LOVESEXY was the record released to replace the withdrawn BLACK ALBUM, the one...

Pros:
I'll make love 2 ya...

Cons:
...tomorrow.

"Lovesexy: You either had a mind-blowing experience or you didn't." - Prince Lovesexy is possibly Prince's best LP and definetely one of the greatest albums ever recorded. Unfortunately, this album recieved more attention for the controversial semi-nude cover than the music itself, and was mostly a commercial failure. If you can work up the courage to put this one down on the counter and face the weird look from the salesgirl, you'll never regret it. The story behind Lovesexy is somewhat of an old chestnut now, but perhaps it deems retelling. In 1987, after releasing the incredible tour-de...

  A Gospel Album by Prince???
Review created: 03/28/02

Pros:
A timeless album that any Prince fan should definitely have.

Cons:
Too short; All songs are incorporated into only one track

Yeah, that s right. During an interview just after the release of Emancipation Prince called this album a gospel album. Now, I don t know about you but I find it hard to believe that an album called Lovesexy with a picture of Prince naked and sitting on large flowers on the cover is a bit of a stretch to be considered a gospel. Now I may be able to see the religious undertones in about 3 or 4 of the 9 songs on the album, but the rest are a stretch. If you really want to analyze the religious nature of this album, I ll let you look into the lyrics and listen for yourself and make that...

  Lovesexy: A Misunderstood Triumph
Review created: 01/20/00
by: BimTrinkman -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Risky, brilliant album

Cons:
Difficult listen... but give it time

Perhaps no album within Prince's canon is more misunderstood than "Lovesexy." (Except for the underrated "Come" album, which people erroneously believed was either a greatest-hits package, leftover tracks from the vault, or tossed-off throwaways. But that's a story for a different time and place.) "Lovesexy" managed to confound critics, fans, and even his band members with its convoluted spirituality/sexuality, dense, multilayered production values, and difficult-to-comprehend song forms. It's obvious from the get-go that this is yet another Statement Album from Prince--the CD is tracked as...
