Dylan never seems to lack for the new. Once again he creates the magic of his albums. Of all the performers, Dylan to me plays the novel, amusing music that is always new.

No matter what he does Dylan does it good and this is no exception. All 12 tracks here are wonderful. You need this. You really need this. 5 Stars.

  Dylan comes through...once again
Review created: 03/04/07

The voice took some getting used to, but once past that, this is another great Dylan album, full of spontaneity and feeling, and the usual great lyrics. There's good variety too; some real lively rockers, to more mellow ballad-types. It would not be much of a stretch to rank this album with the very best of Dylan, almost on a par with "Blood On The Tracks."

  Glad I hung-in there

This cd took several listenings before getting use to.
Matter of fact, I almost gave up on it. But, I'm glad I didn't.
It's a good follow up to his last release, "Time Out of Mind", which remains my favorite of the two.
Yes, Bob's voice sounds weathered, however,it still fits well with the music - it just does! I bought this cd used and it was not accompanied with lyrics. I'm assuming it wasn't offered with a new cd, as well. I wish it was. Reason being, I've sometimes found it difficult to understand what he's singing.
Lets face it, when Dylan is singing, you want to know what the heck he's saying because no one says it better!
All in all, it's well worth the purchase - even without the lyrics !

Love & Theft - Bob Dylan

Yep, even though Dylan sounds like he's at least a hundred years old on this album, he speaks in a haunting, loving, hopeful yet weary voice across a weary and always mystifying American landscape.

"High Water" and "Po' Boy" are my favorite tracks, but every song on this album has its spooky charm. I never considered Dylan anything like a crooner, but on Love & Theft he almost does it...

So good, it's like Bob Dylan forgot he's gonna die soon

Yeah, so Ebay e-mailed me and demanded I write a review of this fine album by a Mr. Robert Zimmerman. I'm bored, tired, and slightly buzzed, so naturally I agreed. "Love And Theft" is yet another fine album to add to the legacy of the greatest songwriter in the history of folk, rock and roll, etc. It starts off with the bluesly "Tweedle Dee And Tweedle Dum" and from there it expands into a great montage of Americana. Bobby and gang touch on plenty of different musical styles on this album, ranging from swing ("Summer Days") to driving rock ("Honest With Me") to bluegrass (my personal favorite of the album, "High Water") and back again. Of course, the reason people are still listening to this man 40 years later is his lyrics. Here they tend to stay in the personal vein that he returned to on his previous album, "Time Out Of Mind", although this time he tends to be less direct with his thoughts on morbidity, instead opting for vaguer imagery in songs like "Floater". For those who were shocked or perhaps disturbed by Dylan's new "old man" voice on the last album, well, it hasn't changed, but it suits these songs just as well as it suited the bitter, cynical "Time Out Of Mind" lyrics, despite the fact that most of these songs are somewhat lighter.

So basically, this is yet another (!!) excellent album by Bob Dylan. It has the most diverse range of musical styles he's shown since "The Basement Tapes" of perhaps even "Blonde On Blonde", and the lyrics reflect that, um, freewheelin' nature. I would say it's even better than "Time Out Of Mind", and since we all know that (let's face it) the man kind of sucked in the 80's, I would go as far as to call this his greatest album since "Blood On The Tracks". If you were depressed by the slow, morbid vibe of his last album, you will be pleasantly surprised to find that Bob Dylan is very much alive on "Love And Theft". If you love Bob, you will love this album. If not, well, you probably aren't reading this review anyway. I'm done. Just buy it already.

"Gee Mr. Zimmerman, You Still Got It"
Review created: 10/29/01

Pros:
Another Great Album from Bob Dylan.

Cons:
None, that flawless bastard.

Throughout his near-forty year career, Bob Dylan has gone through many peaks and valleys throughout his career. In the early 60s, he was a folk hero speaking about the problems of the world. In the mid-60s, he went electric by bringing electric rock n roll to folk music. In the late 60s, he dabbled in country music until the early 70s, he went through the first of many slumps until the mid-70s when he came back with his album Blood on the Tracks that revealed about his vulnerability on the disintegration of his marriage. In the late 70s, Dylan converted to Christianity, which baffled many of..

Ol' Bob's Leisurely Journey Through Musical History
Review created: 12/02/01
by: tanta07 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Expert Songcraft, LYRICS, LYRICS, LYRICS!

Cons:
Ahhh...that it took 4 years between albums?

Bob Dylan is at a point in his life where he can literally do anything that he wants on record, and it will automatically be considered a STATEMENT. This is how Bob Dylan was originally perceived, so many years ago when his songs meant something, both politically and musically. However, he went through his own period of irrelevancy where he was more known for being that guy who sang a song with Roy Orbison and Tom Petty that one time. With 1997 s masterpiece, Time Out of Mind, Dylan once again brought himself up out of the ashes, and showed that he was still a vital artist capable of...

  He's Baaack!

Pros:
Great collection of songs, with a bouncy, energetic feel.

Cons:
Nothing very new or innovative - at this point he's just a master craftsmen.

I was surprised by the presence of this album. It snuck up on me in the record store today, and I decided I could spare the cash to take it home with me. I'm glad I did, because it is what I expected (as much as I didn't expect it) - prime Dylan. I like this stage in the man's career. His innovative and revolutionary 60s and 70s albums are ingrained in rock history; his uninspired and at times embarrassing forays into Christian rock and bland pop experiments of the 80s and early 90s are over and forgotten. In 1997, he brought things back home with the haunting and acclaimed Time Out Of Mind...

My Last Dylan Review For A While Is The New "Love And Theft!"
Review created: 12/07/07
by: wlswarts -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Decent lyrics, Generally good voice

Cons:
Music is strangely generic

So, in the last week, I've had something of a crash course in Bob Dylan. My father, who is a huge fan of folk rock music, has a small collection of Bob Dylan's c.d.s and I asked him if I could borrow them because Dylan is one of those artists I've heard a few songs from and I wanted to start listening to some of his full albums. So, I borrowed a three-pack of early works (reviewed at: http://www.epinions.com/content_409695719044 ), "No Direction Home" (reviewed at: http://www.epinions.com/content_409551933060 ), and the giant deluxe boxed set of "Biograph" (reviewed at: http://www.epinions...
