Fairly well done with an interesting story, it was never meant to be an Academy Award movie, just good wholesome entertainment for the family. When the series began, I had to watch it along with another new series - "Star Trek". They were really quite different and you watched each for its' own merits. Lost in Space was usually funnier. So when the movie came out (and a few decades had passed and Heather Graham was starring in it - wow!!!) you just had to get it. It was funny and had very familiar characters in it but I was expecting more out of Heather (after Boogie Nights). This particular 1999 issue is in NTSC VHS format. My reviews are written with no knowledge as to who the potential seller may be.

Pros:
Matt LeBlanc in a non-comedic role, action sequences, time-travel

Cons:
too much room for a sequel

The Movie "Lost In Space" came out way back in 1998. It was a remake of a television show that used to be quite popular. The movie itself took a lot of the plot line, and all of the characters when it made it to the big-screen. This was one of the most anticipated movies in 1998 to come out by the Science Fiction community, because of the strong following that the fans of the television show had developed. Though the television show came a long time before I began to become enveloped in the television world, I have watched a lot of the episodes repeated on Nick-at-Night and on the Sci Fi...

Pros:
Quite fun in places, some decent extras on DVD...

Cons:
... feeble plot, some DVD features very poor

Lost in Space was a popular science fiction series some years ago but I never really saw it. So I watched the film with no real expectations either way. And my final opinion is? neither way really. The film starts off with an space dogfight so cheesy that even Top Gun would have been ashamed of it. Akiva Goldsman is responsible for the screenplay and the dialogue owes more to the terribleness of Batman

Pros:
Some of the Old Series Stars Had Cameos

Cons:
everything else

This movie had such potential, a great cast, a title that every one could relate to, and then poop! The stars alone would be enough to draw you to this movie. Gary Oldman, William Hurt, Matt LeBlanc, and Mimi Rodgers. Also there were brief cameos by some of the stars from the original series. June Lockehart, Angela Cartwright, Marta Kristan, and Mark Godard. Some of the special effects were done by Jim Henson's Creature Shop which was a bright spot. All this and the movie didn't get off the ground. I was all set is the beginning when I saw the Jupiter spaceship thinking this was going to be...

  Oh no, not time travel...

Pros:
Some good special effects, William Hurt, a few laughs

Cons:
The story, Gary Oldman's character, some bad special effects, time travel/warping

If there is one thing that the majority of sci-fi/fantasy movies should generally avoid, it's time travel or time warping. It usually does not make for a good story, and has so many plausibility issues it's scary. There are a lot of things a movie can do that I will just smile and enjoy with my brain firmly planted in neutral, but time travel/warping is not one of them. The Story Set in the year 2058, the earth has all but used up it's resources. The fate of the planet is dependent upon the mission of a family, the Robinsons, who will set out into deep space to colonize the planet Alpha Prime.

Lost In Space: We Should All Be So Lucky.

Pros:
Most of the New Line Cinemas staff involved with this movie was unceremoniously fired after its theatrical release.

Cons:
Some new-hire twit saw fit to release it on DVD.

I haven t written a movie review in eons, probably because I lost my free movie pass and have been loathe to actually PAY to see anything that is probably going to suck. Last year, I bought a DVD player that was so outdated that it actually plays DIVX as well, but for the low price of $125 and the promise of five free DVDs, it was a hard offer to pass up. Then I got the five free movies. All of them were, to varying degrees, unimpressive (generously speaking), but one of them was simply breathtaking. And I mean breathtaking in the Seinfeldian sense, as applied to something that is so...
