  Great live album--a rarity

I don’t usually care for live albums but this is where Pearl Jam thrives. If you only get one live album, this should be it.

Pearl Jam's First Of 1,834 Live Albums

Pros:
Some wonderful performances of some great songs

Cons:
Overshadowed by recent live releases

Releasing live albums always results in quite a quandary for bands (or more accurately, their labels). Should we release one live show from beginning to end or throw together several different songs from random shows? Even more perplexing is the actual song selection if the random version is selected. Covers? Only the hits? Cult favorites? Oh, the decisions! I was plenty pleased to hear in 1998 that Pearl Jam was preparing to release a live album featuring their previous tour. I didn t have any live Pearl Jam recordings except for a tape of their 1995 Southpark Meadows show in Austin, which I.

WOMAN, GET IN THE KITCHEN AND MAKE ME MY PEARL JAM, Part Six - Live_On_Two_Legs

Pros:
solid performances, i can't wait to see them live for myself

Cons:
the track listing isn't perfect, Ten could be better represented

This is a live album, so im not writing long descriptions Ok, when it comes to P Jam live you can take the following courses of action, you can buy one of the live DVD s, or you can choose from one of the hundreds of live albums Pearl Jam released after Binaural. for the most part you won t be able to get them very cheap, well at least not down in my lonely part of the world because many of them have to be imported, and some are very obscure. but that all began when P Jam released this album, which consisted of the highlights from their 1998 tour, meaning a lot of bad tracks from Binaural...

Pros:
Displays, and even improves upon, classic songs

Cons:
A few uneven spots

Nothing proves exactly how good a band is like a live performance. You can't hide behind layers of samples or any other studio tricks, and you can't have another take like you can in a TV special. It's just you and your instruments. Put up or shut up. Keeping this in mind, it's pretty obvious that Pearl Jam is one damn good band. Several things become clear to you as you listen to this live album. For one thing, Pearl Jam was never really a "grunge" band. The guitars are quite clear, unlike the heavily distorted sounds of Nirvana or Alice in Chains. And I don't think any grunge band would...

They are as good live as they say they are

Pros:
Wow

Cons:
Absolutely none whatsoever of any real importance

As the opening chords of Corduroy start up, you might think, hmmm, this sounds good . But as the song gradually speeds up, the verse begins, and the band warm up, then you begin to realise what a quality band Pearl Jam are. Each performance is finely honed and the band play together beautifully. Vedder s vocals are as impressive as ever, Ament, Gossard and McCready all contribute to a building effect, and the drummer (I forget who it was at this point) is simply amazing. I can hardly believe he can sit through these 16 songs, pounding away as if there were no tomorrow. So, Corduroy is an...

Pros:
Good live versions of many destined classics

Cons:
No ALIVE!!!

I repeat NOT a greatest hits album. And I only say that because 80% of the songs that Pearl Jam comes out with are classics so just go out and buy the studio albums. The point of this album is to treat the fans to the concert atmosphere of some songs. To anyone that enjoys concerts you understand that a lot of the time songs sound so much better when you hear them blaring and in your face. That should be a prerequisite on the box for listening to this album. It isn t done justice listened to softly. If you have read my other Pearl Jam reviews you will see that I heavily recommend this album.
