Although it is not typical Bruce Springsteen, it is just as good as anything he has ever done. Not only has he reworked old folk songs of which most of them I've never heard, he spiced some of his own songs also.
If you like The Boss and want to hear something different, get it!
Loved it enough to buy in twice, one copy for the car the other while I'm on the computer (yes I know I could/should have downloaded). Husband and I heard it for first time on channel GBH for a lot more money than I paid in Half.com.
Though this isn't your typical Springsteen music, I found it a nice change of pace. Think it is great he branches off into different directions and doesn't just play the same kind of music that he knows people want. He plays what he wants to play. Enjoyed the fact Bruce seemed to sincerely be having fun on the cd.
While I myself didn't listen to this CD; I bought it for my Son who is a big Springsteen fan. My son enjoyed the music very much and would definitely recommend it to all Springsteen fans!
This is wonderful stuff. The songs are largely taken from "The Seeger Sessions", Springsteen's reworking of folk classics, giving them incredible vitality. Sringsteen himself talked of this music equalling or surpassing the energy of his early work with the E Street Band! (It was my favourite album for ten years or more). The concert adds a few of Springsteen's own songs and a few old favourites: a suprisingly reflective "When The Saints Go Marching In" and a thrilling "This Little Light Of Mine", for instance. Truly great songs, first class musicianship and a lovely spirit at the concert which comes right out of your CD player at you. What more could you want from a concert CD? Very highly recommended.
