I love Kevin Henkes books and this one did not disapoint me. It is clever and very entertaining for the readers, young and old! I'm such a huge fan of his books, especially the mouse stories. I am so happy to have found this one. I now have most of his books.

When Great Teachers Fall--or--Prematurely Acting Upon Anger

Pros: Easy to relate to; fun illustrations with great details; good fodder for classroom discussion
Cons: None
Lilly the little mouse loved everything about school from the pointy pencils to the squeaky chalk, from her very own desk to fish stick Friday, but especially her new teacher, Mr. Slinger. He was a cool teacher, wearing sandals and brightly colored shirts and ties, saying "howdy" instead of "good morning, pupils," and providing truly tasty treats. She loved him so much that when he had bus duty, she'd stand in line even thought she didn't ride the bus. Lilly wanted to be a teacher just like him. Until the day Mr. Slinger fell from his pedestal. One morning after a weekend shopping with Grammy.

Pros: Wonderful story, characters, illustrations
Cons: None
Lilly s Purple Plastic Purse is another wonderful book by Kevin Henkes. Like his other books it is wonderfully written and beautifully illustrated. It is a joy to read and it is, lucky for me, one of my daughter s favorite books. This book is about a little mouse girl named Lilly. Lilly loves school. She loves all the cool things she has and does at school but most of all she loves her teacher Mr. Slinger. Mr. Slinger is a very cool teacher, he dresses differently, let the children sit in a semi-circle rather than in rows. He feeds them yummy snacks. Lilly wants to be a teacher when she...

Lilly teaches valuable lessons

Pros: Humorous story, wonderful illustrations
Cons: None
I am so impressed by this book that I've given it as a gift to other people's children, as well as my own. I think it's a must-read for preschoolers and their parents, because it teaches lessons like how to deal with disappointment, anger, and sadness, and it does it in a humorous, non-threatening way. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, so I'll just summarize. Lilly is a precocious little mouse who looks at the world in a slightly different manner than most of her peers. She is presented with a special gift that she can't wait to take to school and show off. Once at school,...

Pros: Well written. Nicely illustrated.
Cons: Contains the word "hate".
This book is about a little mouse called Lilly who wants to show off her new purple plastic purse. She gets in trouble at school because she took out her purse to show everyone before she was supposed to. After her teacher takes it away she gets mad and draws an angry picture and leaves it for him. He, on the other hand, writes a nice note and puts it in her purse which he returns at the end of the day. She finds his note and feels guilty about the drawing she left for him. She needs to find a way to make amends and with the help of her parents, she does. This story is wonderfully told by...

I Wanna Be Like You , At Least Today I Do!

Pros: Great Illustrations, Great Book
Cons: none
Children love to take their treasures, new and old, to school to show them off. I can remember taking some lip gloss that was in a container that was shaped like lips to school when I was in the first grade. While I was in another classroom taking a Math class, my best friend decided to take the lip gloss out and play with it. Needless to say, it was taken away by the teacher. I was so mad at my friend I could have screamed. Oh the joys and memories of childhood; funny the things that really stick out in our minds. Lilly s Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes demonstrates a similar story....
