This CD Like A Prayer has a dozen songs from Madonna. Whe it was first released along with her music video's it created much ruckus. Madonna is very talented in everything!

  My favorite Madonna album
Review created: 03/29/08

I have actually bought this album a few times because of either losing it and missing it so much, or having it stolen. A few "radio" favorites are on this album, but it is the other tunes that make it such a hit in my book. One song is like a happy carnival song that just makes you smile when you hear it. Then there are the ones that make you almost cry because of the meanings behind the music. I recommend this album if you like Madonna's earlier music (not back at the very beginning, but earlier then Evita) I absolutly love it!!

  MADONNA INC.
Review created: 11/10/06(updated 11/10/06)

This Bigger then life album, Like A Prayer, paraded Madonna full force into the global marketplace with a million dollar plus paycheck for a Pepsi commercial, a burning cross stigmata video with interracial love and a crazy Lilly Munster hairdo. All this makes you wonder if Madonna is an artist or just Madonna Inc., with a new model released every year.
The songs are more pop sensations with little meaning, just the way we like them. The songs become overshadowed by Madonna's ability to lose touch with reality. Crotch grabbing, religious blasphemy and other over zealous self-worship made Madonna an even bigger contender. Her 4th album of all new songs was said to be in need of some prayers when it was released but Madonna proved everyone wrong again- she was still no new flavor of the month. In fact she was the hottest artist around and she was only getting bigger. The songs that exemplify that on this album are Express Yourself, Like A Prayer and Keep it Together.
Memories of Like Prayer are better than the real thing. It doesn't hold up well today but back in 1989, we could't wait for it's release. The album smelled like patchouli when you bought it and Madonna's face was no where to be seen on the cover, which said alot about her already iconic status. Who knew that this album was an end of an era for Madonna? She has remained topical ever since but this was her peak, she jumped the shark and she supposedly never looked back.

  Madonna Goes Artsy........????
Review created: 05/11/07

Pros:
There are a few good songs ... higher than Madonna's average.

Cons:
Quite a few uninspired tracks

(Disclaimer: Those looking for a brief description of the album will find what their looking for in the "Album Overview" section. The section titled "Detailed Track Discussion" is meant only for those who want to read detailed descriptions of the songs, and they do not constitute the essence of this review. Lastly and most importantly, this review is not necessarily written by the point of view of a Madonna fan.) Introduction: Largely, Like a Prayer was a very positive direction that Madonna embarked on. She nearly abandons her dance posturing and tries to emulate Kate Bush. Um........ nice...

Overrated, but still some great moments.

Pros:
Increased sophistication, more depth and range. The title track and "Oh Father".

Cons:
Strives a bit too hard to be serious in places.

Building on the maturity of True Blue , this album sees Madonna taking those accolades for seriousness to heart, resulting in an LP that alternates between sophisticated pop sizzle and cloying laborious drudgery. Like its predecessor, this is no giant musical leap forward the dance grooves are mostly present and correct, but the more hedonistic, bubblegum flourishes have been taken out to force more of a focus on lyrics and structure, so you won t find any sparkly keyboard effects on this one. Like A Prayer is Madonna s first concept album, focusing on themes of religion and family. I...

Madonna's album works just like a prayer.

Pros:
Some great hits, interesting music, yet another side of Madonna

Cons:
A couple of forgettable songs

Madonna is a women of many personalities, contradictions and revelations. She was setting trends from day one and has constantly achieved success with different personas. I feel the reason Madonna has been so lasting is because she really is all those personas. She is the boy toy who loves the material world. She's the vulnerable woman who yearns for her father's love. She is the women who encourages other women to express themselves. She is a loving mother who enjoys having beautiful children. Although I haven't always identified with Madonna during some of her phases, I admire her cajones...

Madonna's "Prayer" For Another Great Pop Album Was Answered
Review created: 04/22/08
by: speeddemon531-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Music

Pros:
Madonna's most musically diverse, experimental record...and most of the experiments work.

Cons:
"Spanish Eyes" is terrible and the Prince duet is half-baked.

On her first three albums, Madonna seemed content to be frothy and lightweight. "Dance and sing, get up and do your thing" was the refrain of Everybody, her very first single, and it's safe to say that most folks who listened to Madonna's records for most of the Eighties did just that. Of course, anyone even remotely aware of the history of pop artists and pop music knows that the "serious" album lurks somewhere in every musician's mind, and 1989 marked Madonna's first attempt to be taken seriously as an artist, Like a Prayer. At the time this album was released, there weren't too many people.

  Mandatory Madonna: The Controversial Masterpiece
Review created: 02/06/04
by: LindsayBW -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Every song is a sincere emotional journey with varying styles.

Cons:
Love Song's a little out of place. But that's it.

It's all too often that an artist is contrived. You can't really blame them though. They start out with a formula that works, and follow that formula for an album or two until everyone tires of it and they have to try something new. They usually then sink to the bottom and are never heard of again. But if anybody can break the curse, it's Madonna. This was Madonna's fourth album. All three of her previous works had great pop tracks, but followed a specific formulas that made them good pop albums, but never a flat out great album. After 1986's decent True Blue, Madge took some time off to...
